Reality TV: Celeb Big Brother Betting Review

Celebrity Big Brother - Courtney Act Shane

Courtney Act / Shane Jenek is our early 16/1 fancy at Boylesports

The 21st series of Big Brother is underway and producers, always seeking ways of enticing more viewers have given the viewing audience an all-female line-up.

So far Amanda Barrie, Jess Impiazzi, Maggie Oliver, India Willoughby, Ashley James, Ann Widdecombe, Malika Haqq and Rachel Johnson have had an harmonious few days.

However, with eight men:  Daniel O’Reilly, Shane Lynch, Ginuwine, Wayne Sleep, John Barnes, Jonny Mitchell, Shane Jenek (AKA drag queen Courtney Act) and former Apprentice contestant Andrew Brady joining the fray on Friday evening, fireworks are surely just around the corner.

CBB: The Story So Far

So far Rachel Johnson, sister of the much maligned Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson and daughter of I’m a Celebrity star Stanley Johnson, has held the mantle of ring master.  The outspoken journalist and commentator has subtly but cleverly put Ann Widdecombe in the spotlight.

John Barnes was the first male contestant confirmed for CBB but he is coloured and like it or not, coloured contestants have a poor record in any Big Brother (Celebrity or otherwise).  Shilpa Shetty, more than a decade ago, was the last black winner.

On that basis, regrettably we are passing him, Malika and Ginuwine by.  It is also easy to strike out Malika and Ginuwine on the basis the win-ratio of American contestants is 1-in-43.

Ireland nil-point

No Irish contestant has ever won this show either.  Shane Lynch represents the Irish Isle this time around.  The Boyzone singer walked out of Love Island years back (2005) and his sister, Edele Lynch, did not more than satisfactorily in this show a few years back (finishing sixth in the summer 2014 series).  Nice guy that he is, the Tattooed heart throb lacks the personality to win this but will surely go a long way.

Elderly contestants have consistently failed miserably too, so put a line through Amanda Barrie and Ann Widdecombe immediately.  Remarkably India Willoughby is the fourth transgender contestant on the show and the last one, Kellie Maloney finished only ninth.  Lauren Harries took third in 2013 and the late Pete Burns finished fifth in 2006.

Personality Pays

Essentially the Roll of Honour shows us people with big personalities and the ability to make people laugh (especially comedians) have a great record in Big Brother.  Jim Davidson, Stephen Bear, Charlotte Crosbie, Jack Dee, Julian Clary and Rylan Clark are all previous winners.

Another good form pointer is any contestant that undergoes an emotional breakdown

(Denise Welch being a case in point).  Sadly it is impossible to predict which housemate may succumb to sentiment but if one does, be prepared to back them for outright victory immediately.

Funny or Fav Breakdown?

Daniel O’Reilly, better known as Dapper Laughs, is a comedian by profession and has had some ‘previous’ in regards to a breakdown.  Like him or loath him, he ticks two important boxes and that is not missed on the bookmakers who have installed him as favourite.

Jonny Mitchell should do well given his looks and background in Love Island (which has big viewing figures) but a lack of personality will be his downfall.  So, at the prices, Courtney Act (who may also be listed as Shane Jenek in bookmakers prices) is a better proposition and if you avail yourself of a free bet you could do worse than back the popular drag queen.

The Australian made a big impact when entering the Big Brother house (suffering a wardrobe malfunction en-route) and a trawl through Youtube show the 35-year-old has a great sense of humour.

Capable of earning himself plenty of airtime – through both gags and controversy – and likely to go down well with both sexes in the house, the little-known contestant strikes as a Julian Clary on steroids and that celebrities camp style saw him win the summer 2012 CBB series by a veritable landslide.

Courtney Act is currently the 6/5 favourite on the Betfair betting exchange. Hope some of you had a cheeky nibble at the 16’s.
