Super Bowl Betting Update – 31st January 2018

This weekend, the biggest game in American sports takes place in Minnesota, with Super Bowl LII (52), featuring the New England Patriots against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Patriots won the AFC Championship, 24-20 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but had to work hard for the win, as Tom Brady threw a four yard touchdown pass with just 168 seconds of the game left to play. The Jags held a 20-10 lead at the beginning of the fourth quarter, but could not stop Brady working his magic once again, to save the Pats season.

Eagles v Patriots

The Eagles shocked the vast majority of pundits and fans, with a supreme performance in the 38-7 drubbing of the Minnesota Vikings, as they missed out on a potential home Super Bowl appearance.

The Eagles defence has been mighty, throughout the season, with the “D” shutting out the Vikings after a first quarter score. That and Nick Foles excellent performance at quarterback combined to blow the Vikings away in a one sided affair.

The Patriots are favourites as mentioned and it will take a monumental effort from the Eagles to secure their first ever Super Bowl title. The Pats rely on their amazing offence to bludgeon their way to victory, but the defence can be got at, with the defence conceding a lot of yardage in games this season.

The Eagles cannot go toe to toe with their opponents in terms of a passing game, but their ball carrying could be a thorn in the Pats side, especially if it means keeping the ball out of Brady’s hands for long periods.

Despite this minor chance to stop the Patriots, it looks unlikely that Brady and co. can be muted for the full sixty minutes, with the Pats heading to a fourth Super Bowl title in seven years and breaking Eagles fans hearts.

AFC Championship Betting Preview:

Jacksonville Jaguars @ New England Patriots (Sun, 8.05pm GMT)

The Jaguars take on the Super Bowl betting favourites, the New England Patriots in the first game on Sunday, with the visitors looking to end push back against a record that reads one win and ten defeats in their 11 previous meetings.

The Jaguars 45-42 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers is expected to live long in the memory, as the Jags reached their first Conference final, since 1999.

The Jags finished with a 10-6 record over the regular season, but finished with the best defence in the Conference, which was evident in the 10-3 Wild Card win over the Buffalo Bills in the earlier rounds.

The Patriots eased past the Tennessee Titans 35-14 at their Foxboro’ home, as Tom Brady threw three touchdowns to help seal the win and secure yet another AFC final and bid for a 10th Conference victory.

The Pats finished 13-3 for the regular season and were only outscored by one side in the entire NFL, such has been their offensive dominance with Tom Brady (pictured) providing the bullet precision.

NFL betting Tom Brady

This boils down to defence against offense, with the Jags needing to find a way of shutting down Tom Brady and co. if they are to stand a chance of reaching their first ever Super Bowl.

However the Patriots will take great confidence from the forty-two points that the Jags conceded in their last game, with plenty of holes to exploit in that defence.

NFC Championship Betting Preview

Minnesota Vikings @ Philadelphia Eagles (Sun, 11.40pm GMT)

In what should be a closer match-up compared to the AFC match, the Vikings travel to the Eagles, with the visitors looking to quieten the home crowd and take the win.

The Vikings edged out the Saints in a thrilling 29-24 victory at the weekend, with Stefon Diggs securing a 61 yard pass and scoring a touchdown with no time left on the clock to break the Saints hearts.

The Vikings finished the regular season with a 13-3 record and the best defence in the NFL, backing up a decent scoring offensive line, with Case Keenum enjoying his best ever season as Quarterback.

The Eagles beat the Falcons 15-10 to head into the Championship game, in a display that belies their offensive abilities, as Nick Foles struggles to deputise for the injured Carson Wentz at Quarterback.

The Eagles were third highest scorers in the NFL and finished with am equal best nnet points” rating of 162, along with the Patriots, in their 13-3 record during the regular season, but toiled in this play-off game, as the defence stepped in to shut the Falcons down.

The Vikings initially look too strong for the Eagles, with much depending on whether Nick Foles can first find his game and secondly get enough protection from the best defence in the game. Expect a close game, but the Vikings to take the spoils and book their place at the Super Bowl.

Super Bowl Betting Pick – Outright Winner

If the games go as expected, we should see a New England Patriots v Minnesota Vikings Super Bowl 52, with the flawless passing game of the Patriots, battling the best defence in the game from the Vikings.

The Patriots have come up against many top class defences over the years and have usually come out on top, such is Tom Brady’s mastery with the ball. The Viking are the only side that could take them all the way, but once again the Patriots looks head and shoulders above their opponents here.
