About SkyBet

An increasingly popular brand, thanks in no small part to constant adverting on its close relation, Sky TV, the SkyBet name conjures up thoughts way beyond the traditional betting concept.

Online Casino, Poker and Bingo appear to be every part as important to the company as traditional sports-betting, they are certainly promote the brand as such.  And, while most sports that you can think of is covered by SkyBet, there is a definite focus on football and horseracing.

SkyBet began life in 2000 when BskyB purchased a small telephone and start-up internet site, Surrey Sports. Following 15 years of growth, aided by the purchase of a number of online betting sites SkyBet is now a major player in online gambling.  It employs over 500 staff in its Leeds headquarters.

High-Street Presence?

SkyBet are an online site only.  It can be accessed by PC, via their mobile betting apps (for iOS and Android) or by visiting their mobile site in a browser.

Other SkyBet Offers

Every day SkyBet’s ‘Price Boost’ promotion sees the price of at least one fancied horse racing in the UK or Ireland enhanced.  ‘Price Boosts’ can also randomly pop up on football, greyhounds, golf, tennis and other events/markets.

There is also a free £5 bet for SkyBet customers every week courtesy the SkyBet Club’.  It credits regular customers, who place bets totalling £25 or more on selections priced even-money or greater during the course of a week, with a £5 wager every Monday.

Types of Bets/Markets

Almost 30 sports and ‘specials’ markets, which includes politics and TV/Film specials are listed on SkyBet’s homepage.  There is a fair spread of betting opportunities available within them.

SkyBet push football betting ahead of all other sports, unsurprising as SKY Sports are the premier football broadcaster and SkyBet sponsor the English Football League.

Bells & Whistles

SkyBet are closely tied in with Sporting Life and they share a number of their pundits meaning you can read the views and see weblog previews of horse racing from Alex Hammond at SkyBet. Additionally Jamie Redknapp, Johnny Herbert, Sir Ian Botham and Rob Lee give their tips on football, F1, cricket and golf.

‘Best Odds Guaranteed’ is in place at SkyBet as is ‘Cash Out’ on selected football and horseracing bets. Meanwhile the site has a ‘Betting Calculator’ and a helpful ‘Live Scores’ page.

Ways to Bet at SkyBet

SkyBet do not have a tele-betting service but they do have some smart Apps brimming with features and betting opportunities.  That said can be reached through the browser on mobile devices.

SkyBet Customer Service

Contacting SkyBet is very straightforward, customer need to simply hit the ‘Help’ button at the top of the homepage and a door is opened to SkyBet’s 24/7 ‘live chat’, telephone lines and email.  SkyBet are also very active on Twitter, they can be followed and contacted on @SkyBet.

Payments & Withdrawals

It has to be said SkyBet offer disappointingly few deposit and withdrawal methods.  Only Visa, Mastercard, Maestro and PayPal are currently accepted.

Our Verdict – 6½/10

SkyBet’s site is extremely busy and it is not within the parameters of the modern day excepted norm.  Regulars may well soon become accustomed to it but those versed in betting all over the web will doubtlessly find it confusing and sometimes bewildering.

But what really hurts is SkyBet’s systematical refusal of bets at requested stakes and consequential offer to accept smaller bets while not changing their odds (and continuing to advertise them).

SkyBet clearly target small staking social punters and for them they have plenty to offer – not least an attractive £20 sign-up bonus bet.

A 6.5 score may be a little harsh, SkyBet provide a good service after all, and following a few adjustments in their service – not least improved payment and withdrawal methods – we would be pleased to add at least point to that score.
