Aston Villa v Sheffield United Past Meetings

This will be the 98th meeting between these two sides but the first in almost four years and the first league clash in over a decade. Villa lead the head-to-head record with 52 wins compared to United’s 27.

The last time the two sides met saw the Yorkshire side triumph 2-1 at Villa Park in a FA Cup Third Round tie in 2014 – Jamie Murphy and Ryan Flynn goals providing the shock.

That victory avenged a defeat in the same stage of the competition three years earlier when the Blades suffered a 3-1 home loss.

The last league meeting was in the top flight in 2007 when Villa triumphed 3-0 thanks to goals from Gabriel Agbonlahor, Ashley Young and Patrick Berger.

Aston Villa v Sheffield United Stats

Not only have these sides accumulated the exact same number of points this season but they have won as many points as each other both at home and on the road.

Villa have the better goal difference of the two teams by two goals, but have scored five goals fewer than the Yorkshire side this season.

The Midlands club’s home games tend to be low-scoring – they’ve scored only 15 goals and conceded just eight in their 11 home matches to date.

Both teams are on a poor run of form – Villa haven’t won in three games and haven’t scored in two, while United have gained just one point from their last five matches.

Aston Villa v Sheffield United Team News

Neither side has any fresh injury or suspension worries.

Villa are likely to stick with their 4-1-1 formation with Jack Grealish supporting Joshua Omonah in attack, while the visitors are likely to continue with 3-5-2 with Leon Clarke partnering Billy Sharp up front.

Reason for Aston Villa v Sheffield United Bets

Sheffield United are in awful form, losing three of their last four trips on the road and gaining just one point in their last five matches in the Championship.

It’s the start of a run of four away games for the Blades with trips to Derby and Norwich before a trip to league leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Villa’s run of three consecutive victories at the end of November came to an end with by collecting only two points from their following three matches.

The Midlands club are favourites for this clash having lost only once at home this campaign and facing a side in poor form.

If United are to get anything from the game they will look to striker Leon Clarke, who has already netted 14 goals in 19 league appearances including ten in his last seven appearances.

The striker is available to score anytime here at favourable odds of 40/17.
