Reason for Barnsley v Leeds United Bets

Leeds United make the short trip to Barnsley needing a positive result to remain within touching distance of the playoff spots, they so narrowly missed out on last season. They started this campaign full of vigour, despite losing Garry Monk to Middlesbrough, but their excellent start under Monk’s successor, Thomas Christiansen, looked to be unravelling following a run of six defeats in seven league games. However, they moved back up to seventh in the table after ending Boro’s run of three successive Championship victories last weekend.

The Tykes are warming into the new season, making themselves a very difficult side to beat; as Norwich, Boro and Sheffield Wednesday have already found out. They’ve tried to take a positive approach despite having perhaps one of the weakest squads on paper. They’ve only failed to score in one of their last 9 matches, with 19 year old Leicester loanee Harvey Barnes firing a goal every 166 minutes.

Leeds attacker Paolo Hernandez will be their main threat – he scored against Boro and was on target against the Tykes last season. Nevertheless, it’s the away side’s side defence which is most worrying for Christiansen. They’ve kept just one clean sheet in their last 12 matches.

A draw seems the most likely option, with Leeds desperate for points but not quite performing, and Barnsley proving hard to beat. Back it to happen at 23/10 with Betfred. Meanwhile, 69% of Barnsley’s league games this term have produced goals at both ends, with the Tykes only managing one clean sheet all season. Ten of Leeds’ last 11 games have produced over 2.5 goals, so backing a draw and both teams to score at 3/1 with Paddy Power seems a sensible shout.
