Ipswich Town v Sheffield Wednesday Past Meetings

This will be the 42nd meeting between these two sides, with Ipswich shading the head-to-head record with 18 wins compared to Wednesday’s 14.

The Yorkshire side triumphed 1-0 in this encounter last season thanks to Kieran Lee’s goal 13 minutes from time, but that was their first win in nine against the Tractor Boys and only their second in 16.

Three of the previous four meetings at Portman Road have ended in a 2-1 victory for the hosts.

Ipswich Town v Sheffield Wednesday Stats

Ipswich have lost only one of their last four games – winning twice – after being defeated in seven of the previous nine.

Wednesday are unbeaten in their last four league outings, having lost four of the previous five going into that run.

Mick McCarthy’s men are yet to draw any of their home league games this season, winning five and drawing three.

Carlos Carvahal’s side’s 2-1 win at Aston Villa was their first away triumph in six attempts in all competitions.

Ipswich (28 league goals) have the third best attack in the division, and the best outside the top three.

Ipswich Town v Sheffield Wednesday Team News

The hosts are likely to stick with their 4-2-3-1 formation which they have persisted with this season – David McGoldrick should lead the line ahead of an attacking trio of Joe Garner, Martyn Waghorn and Bersant Celina.

Sheffield Wednesday have no fresh injury worries and are expected to start in a 4-4-2 formation, with Jordan Rhodes partnering Gary Hooper – formerly of Ipswich’s local rivals Norwich – in attack, with Steven Fletcher and last year’s match-winner Lee on the bench.

Reason for Ipswich Town v Sheffield Wednesday Bets

Only one point separates these two sides in the table and neither are showing any consistent form this season.

Both have improved over the last four league matches after poor runs of form, but neither are going into this game on the back of a win and neither have any momentum.

Both will have harboured playoff ambitions at the start of the campaign but they will need to generate a run of winning form over the winter months to avoid an underwhelming campaign.

Either side could easily take all three points, but the smart money is on a draw – available at tempting odds – which reflects how close these sides are.

Adam Reach is in the goalscoring form of his career after Carvahal shifted him into an advanced left-wing position despite his grounding as a natural full-back.

He has netted in three of Wednesday’s last four outings and at 6/1, the odds of him making it four in five against a side who have conceded three goals every two games is worth a look.
