Wigan v West Ham Past Meetings

This will be the the 20th competitive fixture between the two clubs, with West Ham shading the head-to-head record with nine wins compared to Wigan’s eight – the two have never clashed before in the FA Cup.

The most well-remembered fixture between these two came in 2011, when the Latics came from two goals down to defeat – and relegate – the Hammers with a 3-2 home win.

The last clash between the sides came in 2013, when goals from Matt Jarvis and Kevin Nolan saw the Hammers triumph 2-0 at Upton Park.

Wigan v West Ham Stats

Wigan sit top of League One and are unbeaten in their last 14 matches in all competitions, with just three league defeats this season.

Their only league defeat at the DW Stadium came at the hands of Bradford City in November and they have conceded just one goal in their last eight league matches.

They have the best attack (53 goals scored) and best defence (13 goals conceded) in the third tier and to reach this stage, they defeated Crawley Town, Fylde and Bournemouth.

West Ham are unbeaten in their last seven games in all competitions, although this run has included four draws.

The Hammers sit 11th in the Premier League standings but remain only four points clear of the relegation zone.

West Ham have two wins and 11 points from their 13 away fixtures in the top flight this season.

To reach this stage, they defeated Shrewsbury Town 1-0 in extra time in a replay.

Wigan v West Ham Team News

The Latics are expected to line-up in their usual 4-2-3-1 formation, with Northern Ireland international striker Will Grigg expected to lead the line.

West Ham have seven confirmed absentees: Jose Fonte, Edimilson Fernandes (both ankle), Manuel Lanzini (hamstring), Winston Reid (groin), Andy Carroll (fractured foot) and Diafra Sakho (knee). There are also doubts over Aaron Cresswell (cramp) and Andre Ayew (muscular).

Reason for Wigan v West Ham Bets

This game is too close to call – Wigan are in fantastic form in the third tier, possess home advantage, a well-drilled defence and an attack which can score freely.

The Hammers may be two levels above the Latics but will be without a raft of first-team squad players and are likely to field an experimental line-up.

David Moyes’s side struggled to progress past fourth tier Shrewsbury Town – almost being taken to penalties in the replay, and this should prove a far tougher task.

Wigan have already eliminated Bournemouth from the top flight this season and will have their eyes on another, although a draw is a more sensible prediction with a replay at the London Stadium likely.

Will Grigg is in great goalscoring form – he has already netted 12 goals this season including four in the FA Cup and has seven form his last ten appearances.

Likely to lead the line, the Northern Ireland international will fancy his chances of being among the scorers.
