Scotland v Netherlands Past Meetings

This will be the 18th meeting between these two nations, with the Netherlands shading the head-to-head record with eight wins compared to Scotland’s six.

The two teams have not played each other since 2009, with the Dutch winning each of the last three encounters without conceding.

Indeed, Scotland’s 1-0 victory in a qualification match for Euro 2004 was their only success over the Netherlands in their last ten meetings.

Scotland v Netherlands Stats

The Tartan Army are unbeaten in their last seven matches – their longest unbeaten run in over two decades.

However, Scotland failed to make the group playoffs after only managing a draw against Slovenia in the final group game.

The Netherlands have won six of their last seven games, with a 4-0 defeat in France the only blotch on an improved run of form.

However, their 11 matches that preceded that run produced only four victories, leaving them too much ground to chase.

Scotland v Netherlands Team News

This will be Malky Mackay’s first match in charge of the Scots since taking over on an interim basis from Gordon Strachan.

Stoke City midfielder Darren Fletcher and Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths have both withdrawn from the squad while strikers Jordan Rhodes and Chris Martin have also both been left out.

The Scots have only two English Premier League players in their squad – Andrew Robertson of Liverpool and West Brom’s Matt Philips.

An experienced Dutch squad features Barcelona goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen, Manchester United’s Daley Blind, former Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk and Georginio Wijnaldum of Liverpool.

Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake and veteran midfielder Wesley Sneijder have also received call-ups after a disappointing World Cup campaign for the Oranje.

However, Arjen Robben has retired from international football after netting twice against Sweden in his final match.

Reason for Scotland v Netherlands Bets

Scotland will miss key players Griffiths and Fletcher with a lack of top-level experience in the squad aside from Glasgow Celtic players.

Aside from Robben’s retirement, the Dutch are at full strength and recent results under Dick Advocaat, former Glasgow Rangers manager, have improved and they are on a winning streak.

Netherlands have a strong recent record against British teams and last year recorded a fine win over England at Wembley.

Memphis Depay is enjoying a strong run of form at both club and international level – he netted three times in the recent World Cup qualification group.

Furthermore, the forward has already netted eight times for Lyon this season and is enjoying a rich vein of form.
