League One champions Sheffield United play their penultimate match in the third tier against an MK Dons side who have secured mid-table safety this season after flirting with relegation previously. We take you through our match previews and predictions and evaluate if the Blades can maintain their push for 100 points.

Past meetings

United won the encounter at Brammall Lane earlier in the campaign courtesy of goals from Steven Scougall and Billy Sharp, in what is typically a well-balanced fixture.

Of eleven meetings since the Dons formation in 2004, there have been five wins a-piece and one draw.

The Yorkshire side have won two of their last three trips to Milton Keynes, although did lose their most recent visit 1-0 in 2015.

There have only been twelve goals in the last nine meetings between both clubs.

After a run of only one win in eight, the Dons have lost only one of their last seven outings and will finish comfortably in mid-table.

Chris Wilder’s side need to win their last two matches to reach triple figures in terms of points for the league season – which hasn’t been achieved since Wolverhampton Wanderers title in 2014.

Team News

Robbie Nielson will be without long-term absentees Scott Wootton (cruciate ligament) and Chuks Aneke (hamstring).

Sheffield United have no fresh injury worries ahead of the tie.

Match predictions

Best bet

Over 3.5 goals 9/4 – Bet Bright

Reason for bets

It’s impossible to look beyond Sheffield United for continuing their incredible run of form – unbeaten in their 15 outings and winning nine of their last ten. Their last five games have been won by a combined margin of eleven goals and they’re playing convincingly and with style.

The Dons are on a decent run themselves but of the six games in which they’ve recently avoided defeat, five have come against sides directly battling relegation and now their own safety has been guaranteed, expect intensity levels to drop.

No side in League One has come close to Sheffield United’s goal tally this campaign (86) but their goals against column (45) is two worse than 17th-placed Oldham Athletic.

Expect goals in this game with United wanting a win to maintain their momentum and points tally, but with neither side playing under any pressure and with greater freedom.
