Luton Town v Blackpool Past Meetings

Blackpool’s first leg win brought an end to the run of six consecutive defeats suffered against Luton in this fixture.

Mark Cullen’s hat-trick helped Gary Bowyer’s men to a potentially vital win, although away goals from Daniel Potts and Isaac Vassell gave Town great hope.

The Bedfordshire side had won both previous league meetings to nil this season and indeed had only conceded three goals in total in the previous six league outings.

Blackpool have only won once at Kenilworth Road in their last eight visits.

Luton Town v Blackpool Stats

Luton managed to finish seven points above Blackpool in the final standings of the league table, with the latter scraping a spot in the playoffs – only two points above 10th-placed Stevenage in a jam-packed league table.

The Hatters had the division’s fifth best home record, which corresponded closely to their fourth placed finish but Blackpool’s away record was only the 10th best in the division – winning only 8 from 23 attempts.

Luton Town v Blackpool Team News

Both Johnny Mullins and Jordan Cook are expected to return from injury layoffs for the hosts, while Danny Hylton is expected to partner Vassell in attack in their 3-5-2 formation.

Blackpool have no fresh injury problems for the vital clash. Only long-term absentees Jim McAllister and Jamille Matt are missing.

Reason for Luton Town v Blackpool bets

This will be a highly-anticipated match – Luton will be keen for revenge after being edged out of the exhilarating first leg, they will believe their superior league points tally, home advantage, and previous win record against the Seasiders will be enough to get them over the line.

Despite their significantly higher points total, the Hatters only scored more one goal than Blackpool and conceded only three less, which suggests their game management is better and they are in a stronger position to eke out results.

With a place at Wembley at stake and with a passionate home crowd behind them, Nathan Jones’ side will be considered favourites and betting for them to win the match – and not necessarily the tie – is well priced at 13/10.

Only two strikers netted more times than Danny Hylton (21 goals) in League Two this campaign and the 28-year-old has shown particularly good form since the turn of the year, scoring 16 times in his last 26 appearances.

Odds of 13/10 of the striker continuing his fine run of form are attractive, particularly due to the high-scoring nature of playoffs and the pressing need for the hosts to win on the night.
