Liverpool Betting Preview

They might have the benefit of not having any distractions from Europe when it comes to the Premier League, but Jurgen Klopp’s squad still looks short of title-winning quality at present and Liverpool’s title odds look too short to have any real appeal as a consequence.

Liverpool’s odds on a top four finish look more interesting from a betting perspective, with Jurgen Klopp certainly being capable of having his team in the mix for Champions League qualification.  Failure to secure a top six finish this season would be considered little short of disastrous, but a best price of 4/9 to achieve that won’t appeal to many punters as a long-term bet.

Having reached both the Europa League and League Cup finals last season (somewhat to the detriment of their Premier League form it must be said), Liverpool have to be considered as serious contenders in both domestic cup competitions too.

Liverpool fixtures 2016-17

There’s certainly no easing their way into the new Premier League season for Liverpool this term, with their opening game being a trip to Arsenal on Sunday 14 August.   There then follow two additional away matches at Burnley and Tottenham Hotspur, with the Reds having swapped fixtures with the Clarets due to delays in completing stadium expansion work at Anfield.  Liverpool’s first Premier League home fixture will be the visit of champions Leicester City on Saturday 10 September.

Liverpool Betting Tips

Liverpool

With Jurgen Klopp having been in charge at Anfield since the early months of last season, he will at least have a slight advantage over the new appointees at Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea with regards to knowing exactly what he has to work with by now.

Inconsistency dogged Liverpool last season, even after Klopp’s appointment.  The promise was clearly evident though in some memorable performances both domestically (victories away at Chelsea, Manchester City and, in the League Cup, Southampton) and in Europe (wins at home to Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund and Villarreal) to indicate that they are back on track under the German.

There remain question marks over just about every area of the team, but Klopp looks to have made some decent acquisitions early in the transfer window and one would envisage that there are a few more to come (and go) now that Euro 2016 is done and dusted.  It would suggest that further progress should be evident at Anfield over the course of the season.
