Past Arsenal v Leicester meetings

Leicester have not defeated Arsenal in any of the two’s last 21 meetings together in a rotten run dating back to November 1994.

These clashes last year was particularly low scoring – an August fixture in the Midlands finished goalless before a late Robert Huth own goal settled the tie in the Gunners favour 1-0 in late April.

Two of the Foxes three league defeats in their successful title campaign two seasons ago came at the hands of Arsene Wenger’s side.

Arsenal v Leicester Stats

Leicester have only ever finished above Arsenal once in their history – the successful 2015/16 season, when the Gunners finished runners-up.

Arsenal have lost at home in each of the last two opening day fixtures – 0-2 against West Ham in 2015 and 4-3 against Liverpool last season.

The Foxes also lost on the opening day last season, going down 2-1 at Hull.

Arsenal v Leicester Team News

Arsenal will have Francis Coquelin (knee), Gabriel Paulista (medial ligament) and Santi Cazorla all unavailable, while Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil and Per Mertesacker are all expected to be fit.

Leicester will be without Danny Drinkwater (thigh) and Robert Huth (ankle) although Islam Slimani and Kelechi Iheanacho are both expected to recover from knocks.

Reason for Arsenal v Leicester Bets

Unlike the last two seasons, Arsenal will be hoping to avoid slipping to a surprise home defeat on the opening day of the campaign. They have been stung twice by this but will go into this game as strong favourites.

They have not fallen foul to the Foxes in the past 23 years and hold an incredible strong record in this fixture, while last year’s Community Shield win will give them the competitive edge going into the opening day.

It could be a grueling campaign for the Gunners due to their participation in the Europa League and will be wary of getting off to a quick start to ensure an improvement on last season’s 5th placed finish.

Craig Shakespeare’s men are predominantly a counter attacking side and this could prove to have some joy on the big Emirates pitch – striker Jamie Vardy to find the net at any time is an enticing 11/4.

The England international has netted each of the last three goals scored by Leicester against Wenger’s side and his pace and directness could once again prove effective on Friday, although it may be too little for the visitors.
