Premier League

Manchester United v West Ham Past meetings

West Ham are without a win at Old Trafford in their last twelve visits, and have lost nine times at the stadium. However, three of the last four encounters in Manchester have ended as stalemates.

In fact, the Hammers have only beaten United twice in their last 23 encounters and only once in the last 16 – the last ever game at Upton Park in 2016.

This clash at Old Trafford last season ended in a 1-1 draw – Zlatan Ibrahimovic cancelling out Diafra Sakho’s second minute older.

The Reds won the return 2-0 at the London Stadium and also defeated the capital side 4-1 in the League Cup at Old Trafford.

Manchester United v West Ham Stats

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, ruled out through injury until January, netted four goals in his three games against the Hammers.

Anthony Martial has scored five times against Slaven Billic’s side – more than against any other side in his career.

Manchester United have won their last two opening day fixtures whilst West Ham lost last year at Chelsea but the previous year won 2-0 at Arsenal in what has typically been a testing opening fixture.

Manchester United v West Ham Team News

Manchester United have a quartet of injured players – Ashley Young (hamstring), Luke Shaw (lisfranc joint), Marcos Rojo and James Wilson (both knee) while Zlatan Ibrahimovic has officially left the club following his injury.

Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic and Victor Lindelof are all in-line to make their debuts for United, while Phil Jones and Eric Bailly are available following their Super Cup bans.

The Hammers are without Sofiane Feghouli (hamstring), Cheik Kouyate (knee), Diafra Sakho (back), Andy Carroll (groin) and Michail Antonio (hamstring) while Aaron Cresswell (muscle) and Manuel Lanzini (knee) are both doubts.

Javier Hernandez is among the likely debutants – against his former club – while Joe Hart and Pablo  Zabalete are also expected to start.

Reason for Manchester United v West Ham Bets

Manchester United are strong favourites to win this clash for a variety of reasons: home advantage, superior quality in their side, a better pre-season and having already enjoyed a competitive edge from participating in the European Super Cup.

Competition for places is so strong at the Red Devils that a number of players will be more desperate than ever to start the season strongly and stake their claim for a regular place.

West Ham started last season extremely slowly and it wasn’t until November that they started to pull away from the relegation zone.

Their five signings in the calendar year have an average age of 32 and may find the going tough if the hosts play at the tempo they are capable of.

Martial is one such player for United who can do damage to a sluggish defence and he has already netted five times against the Hammers – including a double during their last Old Trafford meetings.

Odds of 15/8 for the Frenchman to be on target again are a hugely generous 15/8 and are well worth checking out.
