Brighton v Man City Past Meetings

These two sides have met nine times competitively in their history – with City winning four, Brighton triumphing on three occasions along with two draws.

The last meeting between the pair was in the League Cup in September 2008, when the South Coast side won a penalty shootout after the sides cancelled each other out in a 2-2 draw.

The two’s last league meeting was in 1983, when City triumphed 1-0.

Brighton v Man City Stats

This will be Brighton’s first top flight appearance in 34 years, with the club following as low as the fourth tier in the time since their last stint.

City have already spent a cool £217m in this summer’s transfer window – surpassed only by Real Madrid’s spending in the summer of 2009.

The club have won each of their last six opening day fixtures, dating back to 2010’s scoreless draw at Tottenham Hotspur.

Brighton v Man City Team News

Brighton are expected to have a fully-fit squad with Sam Baldock, who has a leg injury, the only absentee.

Mathew Ryan, Izzy Brown, Ales Mateju and Davy Propper are among those set to make their debuts for the Seagulls.

Midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is the only guaranteed absentee from Pep Guardiola’s side – he is set to return from an ACL Knee injury next month. New full-back Benjamin Mendy, signed from Monaco, is likely to be fit despite a thigh strain.

New signings Ederson, Kyle Walker, Mendy, Bernardo Silva and Danilo are all in-line to feature for the visitors.

Reason for Brighton v Man City Bets

Guardiola’s side will be overwhelming favourites to win this game due to the gulf in finances and players available to both clubs.

The Seagulls home crowd have waited 34 years to see their side back in the top flight but it could hardly have come out with tougher opponents, with City many punter’s tip for the title this season.

City won all six of their opening Premier League games last season and they will be aiming to emulate this to launch a title assault this season.

This is also a game that is likely to have goals – few sides possess the wealth of attacking options than the visitors and the addition of Portuguese international Bernardo Silva will only add to their threat.

Only Newcastle scored more goals than Brighton (74) in the Championship last season and they will be keen to give their supporters something to cheer about, home advantage ensures there will be some pressure on them to come out of their defensive shape.

Odds of over 3.5 goals at 7/4 appear to be tempting Brighton v Man City betting odds.
