  • Van Barneveld to score more 180’s than MVG 2/1 with Betfair  / bet365

Remarkably we have already reached Week 8 of the Premier League and even more of a surprise is Peter Wright’s position at the head of the table.

To be fair his slender lead is not a true reflection of the results as Michael van Gerwen has played one less game then the Scotsman and he is just a single-point behind the table-topper.

Nevertheless you cannot knock Peter Wright’s results, while he has won five games and Van Gerwen four, no other player has won more than three matches.

Wright is very much a horse in form while Phil Taylor has not won a Premier League game since mid-February.

There were glimpses of the old brilliance being back for the multiple World Champion in the early stages of his game against MVG last week but, everything considered the form horse is the clear bet when this pair clash on Thursday and so Wright gets the five-star nap on the night.

151.5+ is the Premier play

There’s been no end of high check-outs in the Premier League this season: Two 170’s (weeks 2 & 4), a 160 in week 1, a 154 and 156 these past two weeks.  This week’s line has been set at 150.5 (by Bet365) and, given the form, there’s plenty of reason to ‘go high’.

Veteran Van Barneveld can keep tabs on MVG

Last week Raymond Van Barneveld, with five 180’s, a 156 check-out, and a 103 3-dart average, belied the odds when thumping Gary Anderson 7-2.  Unquestionably home advantage played to the Dutchman’s strengths.

This week, in Manchester, he can over-perform against his younger countryman, Michael van Gerwen.

This pair, who are friends, team-mates and allies, have more history than the Magna Carta and the history books show the duo can, and often do, serve up a thriller.

This was the case in the 2016 World Championships when Van Barneveld, then world ranked just No. 16, eliminated MVG from the World Championship 4-sets-to-3.  In short, when this pair meet in competitive action the formbook is all but useless.

So we have two plays on this game.  Firstly we like the older player +2.5 legs on the handicap and the odds on him scoring more 180’s than his rival also looks a great opportunity.

Considering Van Barneveld has posted 29 maximums in the league this season and MVG just 21, a 2/1 quote at Bet365 and Betfair looks very wrong.
