It’s a Monday evening kick-off for Tottenham Hotspur and their mood going into this game will be largely dictated by the result from Sunday’s clash between table-topping Leicester City and West Ham United. (Edit: Match ended 2-2)

Should Leicester have won and extended their lead to 10-points, then Tottenham will probably know in their heart of hearts that the title is just about gone.  That in turn could understandably impact on their performance.  However, should the Foxes fail to beat the Hammers, then there will remain hope for Mauricio Pochettino’s men.

Stoke City are comfortable in ninth spot in the table and have nothing of note left to play for this season.  They are almost certain to secure a top 10 finish, which will be seen as a perfectly decent reward for their season’s endeavours.

Although Stoke are easier on the eye and a higher quality team under Mark Hughes compared to Tony Pulis, the Britannia Stadium isn’t quite the fortress it was under their former manager, with the Potters having already lost six Premier League games at home this season.

Stoke have won just one of their last five matches and suffered a 4-1 drubbing against a below full-strength Liverpool last weekend.  Should Leicester drop points, this might not be the worst time to be facing Stoke, particularly with them likely to be missing several key players through injury.

Although they’ve struggled to keep pace with Leicester at the top of the table, it’s difficult to fault Tottenham on current form that has seen them pick up 29-points from a possible 36.

Whatever the Leicester result, there is still plenty for Tottenham to play for.  Although they are almost guaranteed a top-four finish already, they will want to ensure they finish above North London rivals Arsenal and, with the possibly of Manchester City and Liverpool both winning European trophies, secure a top-three finish a.s.a.p. (fourth spot won’t be good enough for the Champions League if both City AND Liverpool prevail in winning silverware in Europe).

Stoke have conceded 10 goals in their last five matches and may have just eased up a tad of late.  Tottenham will want three points here whatever the result at the King Power Stadium, but a safer bet might be over 2.5 goals.
