Liverpool v Manchester United Past Meetings

Each of the last three meetings between the two sides have ended in draws, including both of last season’s clashes.

The fixture at Anfield finished scoreless in the same match day of the season, before the two drew 1-1 at Old Trafford three months later.

Liverpool haven’t beaten United in the past six league meetings – with four defeats (all when Louis Van Gaal was in charge at Old Trafford) with the last Liverpool victory coming when David Moyes was United boss.

However, two seasons ago the Merseyside club won 3-1 on aggregate against United in the Europa League.

United have won three of their last five league visits to Anfield.

Liverpool v Manchester United Stats

Only Crystal Palace (17) and West Ham (13) have conceded more league goals than Liverpool (12) this season.

Manchester United (2) have the joint best defensive record in the league and have kept the most clean sheets (6 from 7 games) while stretching back to May, they have 8 clean sheets from 9 league games.

Jose Mourinho’s side have the league’s second best attack (21 goals) while Liverpool are ranked fourth in terms of goals (13).

Liverpool v Manchester United Team News

Liverpool continue to be without Adam Lallana (thigh), Nathaniel Clyne (back) and Adam Bogdan (ACL knee), while Dejan Lovren (back) is also a doubt.

United have somewhat of an injury crisis with Marouane Fellaini (knee ligaments) joining Paul Pogba (hamstring), Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo (both knee ACL) on the sidelines.

Michael Carrick and Phil Jones (both knocks) are also major doubts, although Romelu Lukaku is expected to be fit.

Reason for Liverpool v Manchester United Bets

These games are usually very close – the last seven league meetings at Anfield have been either draws or been settled by the odd goal.

United are the in-form team but have been damaged by injuries to Pogba and Fellaini while form has also been hampered by the two-week international break.

However, home advantage is not enough to make Liverpool favourites due to having won only one of their last seven matches in all competitions with the same defensive frailties repeating themselves.

That is something that Lukaku – seven goals in his first seven league games for United – will look to take advantage of.

His awareness in finding space and aerial ability should both be a major threat to the home side’s defence, who also struggle to defend set pieces.
