Man United v Man City Past Meetings

This will be the 151st competitive fixture between the two clubs, with United ahead on head-to-head victories with 59 wins to City’s 44.

Pep Guardiola’s side’s 2-1 league win at Old Trafford last season was their only victory over their city rivals in the last six attempts.

Indeed, the Citizens failed to score in either of the other two encounters – a 1-0 League Cup loss at United or the scoreless league return draw in April.

City have had a lot of memorable successes at Old Trafford in recent years, with a 6-1 victory in 2011 and a 3-0 triumph in 2014 the highlights.

Man United v Man City Stats

Tuesday night’s victory over CSKA Moscow gave United a joint-club record 40th successive match unbeaten at home, a run which started after the defeat to City in September 2016.

Manchester City (46) are the highest goalscorers in the division while United (35) are the second highest.

United (9 goals conceded) have the best defensive record in the league and have kept the most clean sheets (7) while City’s defensive record (10 conceded) is the second highest.

Jose Mourinho’s side have won all eleven home matches this season, including seven in the Premier League.

City have not dropped a point in any of their seven away fixtures – the best record in the division.

Man United v Man City Team News

United will be without Marouane Fellaini (knee), Eric Bailly (groin), Michael Carrick (heart condition) and Paul Pogba (suspended), but they may be able to welcome back Phil Jones (calf).

David De Gea, Ashley Young, Anthony Martial and Nemanja Matic are all expected to be restored to the starting line-up after being rested midweek.

City will continue to be without defensive duo John Stones (hamstring) and Benjamin Mendy (ACL knee) while there is a doubt over David Silva (muscle), although he is expected to make the match day squad.

Reason for Man United v Man City Bets

With both sides in top form and boosting such strong records this season, this is a match in which you could back neither side with confidence as the quality is so high and things appear evenly matched.

Whilst City are on a superior run in the season, home advantage could prove key for United who will be eager to continue their unbeaten run at Old Trafford to break a club record.

It’s not in Guardiola’s nature to settle for a point and disrupt momentum but considering his side’s eight-point lead, he is likely to accept a point form this game and taking the draw is the safe option.

Romelu Lukaku will once again be instrumental for the home side and is guaranteed to continue his run of starts after being substituted off with 20 minutes remaining against CSKA.

The Belgian got on the score sheet during Tuesday’s win at Old Trafford – his 13th goal since joining United this summer.

The 24-year-old also has a strong record in games against City – scoring in five separate clashes for Everton against them, including both league matches last season.
