Saturday evening’s highlight may well be the Dubai World Cup and the running of Bob Baffert’s Arrogate, but for a bet let’s focus on the race before, the Longines Dubai Sheema Classic.

Despite a strong looking line up, Postponed only needs to do what he’s done before to win this. His last run, when finishing second to Prize Money (repossess today) didn’t show Postponed’s true ability, running fresh, and not finding room at the key moment of the race.

His trainer Roger Varian must fancy his chances of winning and Postponed’s credentials are there for all to see. He won the race last year, before going on to win Group 1’s at Epsom and York, then running below form in the Arc.

This years race does look stronger than last years. It seems a long time ago since Jack Hobbs destroyed a field of Handicappers at Sandown before chasing home Golden Horn in both the Dante and the Epsom Derby. Whilst a classy individual, (Won the Irish Derby) he’s not the most reliable and looks fragile in more recent runs. But, if anyone can nurse a big run from him, John Gosden certainly can.

Highland Reel trained by Aiden O’Brien will certainly give Postponed something to think about. This Globe trotting star has won high class races around the world. Winning last years King George at Ascot, before blazing a trail at Santa Anita winning the Breeders Cup turf. The front running tactics have worked the oracle with the son of Galileo, but he may boil over and set the race up for our fancy.

Seventh Heaven represents last years fillies classic form winning the Irish Oaks, the Yorkshire Oaks (beating subsequent Arc winner, Found). She’s got plenty of class and could land a surprise, if running up to her best form.

Godolphins Prize Money beat Postponed last time out, but staying looks his raison d’etre and speed is needed here.
