UK Snooker Betting Predictions:

  • Neil Robertson 11/1 at Coral

  • Kyren Wilson 50/1 each-way at Betway

The Betway UK Championship gets underway this week (22nd Nov) in York’s Barbican Centre.  128 players will be whittled down to 64 during the course of Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and the competition will reach its decider on December 4th.

This competition is considered the second most important event in snooker after the World Championship and, along with the Masters, it makes up snooker’s Triple Crown.  It has been won by all of snooker’s great names but that does not mean this year’s renewal is already in the hands of one of the world’s top-16.  Recent results have been plain crazy with Mark King’s victory in last weekend’s Northern Ireland Open the latest in a long list of unfathomable winners.

If you think the current trend will continue we advise you open up a Boylesports account as the Irish firm are offering 7/4 about a ‘first time winner’.

However, it is hard to look beyond snooker’s elite especially with the UK Championship being played in ‘long format’.  The competition starts with ‘best-of-11’ matches and progresses into ‘best-of-17’ and then a ‘best-of-19’ final.

Long games are bread and butter to our selection, the defending champion Neil Robertson.  The Australian left hander has actually won this competition twice, prevailing in 2013 as well as 2015. Furthermore he has been a quarter finalist three times and also a semi-finalist.

His current campaign is not too shabby either.  He won the opening ranking tournament of current season, the Riga Masters, and has been a semi-finalist in both the World Open and European Masters. It’s a good record considering he has only played six of this years ranking events.

As for a bigger priced selection, Kyren Wilson, still something of a new kid on the block, should not be ignored.  The 24-year-old stunned the snooker world when landing the 2015 Shanghai Masters in a final frame thriller against Judd Trump and he has proven that form to be no fluke this season.  A finalist in the Indian Open at the start of the current campaign he was a semi-finalist in last week’s Northern Ireland Open, losing out to the eventual winner, Mark King.

Naturally Wilson is listed amongst the ‘first time winner’ category and is in the bottom bracket of the draw meaning he could not meet Robertson any time before a potential final table appearance.
