5 Horses That May Go Well At 2021 Cheltenham Festival
With the 2020/21 National Hunt season not a million miles away, it may prove beneficial to play the long game and pick out some horses that could well run at next year’s Cheltenham Festival. Read on for some very early 2021 Cheltenham Festival betting tips…
Picking out which Cheltenham races they may be targeted at can be extremely difficult at this early stage, but that’s half the fun of ante-post betting isn’t it? Remember the old saying ‘the early bird gets the worm”.
Here are five prospective horses we think are worth following and their possible targets…
Santini (Target – 2021 Cheltenham Gold Cup) 7/1 bet365*
Having pushed Al Boum Photo all the way to the wire in last year’s Cheltenham Gold Cup Santini will undoubtedly be targeted at jump racing’s blue-riband again in 2021.
Now officially rated 172 in the Anglo-Irish ratings system, Henderson’s gelding has to be on any Gold Cup shortlist, even at this early juncture.
Thyme Hill (Target – 2021 Stayers’ Hurdle) 16/1 Betfred
After finishing third in the 2019 Champion Bumper, the Philip Hobbs-trained gelding had a fantastic season just gone, taking the Persian War and the Challow Hurdles before running in the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle where he was pretty unlucky in his run.
Unlikely to go chasing this season, the Stayers’ Hurdle will be the target for Thyme Hill and he’s already popular on TWE’s horse tips for next March already.
Captain Chaos (Target – One of the handicap races)
Dan Skelton’s nine-year-old showed that he was a chaser to be reckoned when he ran well in both the Rehearsal and the Classic Chases before drubbing the field in Doncaster’s Grimthorpe Chase.
Clearly on the up, Captain Chaos can make his presence felt in one of Cheltenham’s staying handicaps.
Honeysuckle (Target – To be confirmed) – 3/1 ANY Cheltenham race
Honeysuckle got the better of Benie Des Dieux in an epic battle for the Close Brothers Mares’ Hurdle at The Festival, extending her unbeaten run to eight, and the mare will be one to follow again this season.
Henry de Bromhead never gives much away when it comes to which races she will run in, but Honeysuckle is available at 3/1 to win ANY race at The Festival with some bookies.
Topofthegame (Target – 2021 Cheltenham Gold Cup) – 16/1 generally
Topofthegame is apparently back to full fitness and is being readied for next season with the Ladbrokes Trophy and the Gold Cup high on Paul Nicholls’ targets for him. He won the RSA Chase at the 2019 Festival, but then missed an entire season due to a leg injury.
As a novice, Topofthegame got the better of Santini and Delta Work at Cheltenham, so he is certainly one to keep onside for the forthcoming campaign, and ultimately the 2021 Cheltenham Festival.
