REASON FOR IVORY COAST VS TOGO BETTING TIPS
The defending champions and pre-tournament favourites make their bow in Africa Cup of Nations 2017 and will be expecting nothing less than three points in their Group C opener against Togo.
These days, with players of the calibre of Eric Bailly, Serge Aurier and Lamine Kone available, the Elephants are probably stronger defensively than they are going forward. A sign of their solidity at the back is that, other than in the African Nations Championship (a tournament for domestic based players only), Ivory Coast haven’t lost an international since January 2015.
They’ve lost the likes of Didier Drogba, Yaya Toure and Gervinho though and they certainly don’t look as potent from an attacking perspective these days.
Togo go into the finals as outsiders in Group C. They have plenty of experience in the ranks, but there’s little strength in depth. The Sparrow Hawks only qualified for the finals as one of the best two runners-up, but you can never discount an African team coached by the legendary Claude Le Roy.
They also have one Emmanuel Adebayor of course. Without a club since the summer, but he has a fine goalscoring record for Togo and could still shine on the big stage.
Ivory Coast are a best price of 8/15 with Betfred to win this match, which is too short to appeal in a group opener. The draw is on offer at 10/3 with Paddy Power and a Togo victory can be backed at 6/1 with Skybet and others.
A more attractive option is to take Ivory Coast to win with Under 2.5 Goals in the match, which is available at a far more generous 2/1 with Coral.
A slight alternative to that market would be to back Ivory Coast to Win to Nil at 6/5 with bet365 but, with goals likely to be at a premium, that’s not quite such an attractive punt.
In terms of the goal markets, backing Under 2.25 Goals at 10/11 with BetVictor on the Asian Handicap Goals looks a decent angle to take. With that bet, if 0 or 1 goals are scored you have a winner and if 2 goals are scored you will get half your stake matched at the winning odds and the other half refunded to your account. Togo have an experienced defence, so they are unlikely to fall to pieces at the back.
With the game likely to be tight, another market worth looking at is the Half-time/ Full-time Double Result. It could take a while for there to be a breakthrough, so backing Draw/ Ivory Coast at 10/3 with Betfred could prove to be decent value.
The best options in terms of Ivory Coast v Togo Correct Score tips are likely to be a 1-0 Ivory Coast win at 9/2 with William Hill and a 2-0 win at 11/2 with 888sport.
With regards to an Anytime Goalscorer, Jonathan Kodjia has impressed for the Elephants and he can be backed at 8/5 with bet365. Wilfried Zaha is priced at 23/10 with Stan James and if you fancy Adebayor to make his mark with a goal, he can be backed at a standout 5/1 with Stan James.
