2019 BetVictor English Open Snooker Predictions & Preview
This is the first of four Home Nation events on the 2019/20 snooker calendar, the others being the Northern Ireland Open, Scottish Open and Welsh Open. And despite featuring 128 players and a quick format – a ‘best of seven frame’ format for the first four rounds – these competitions always go to a ‘name player’. Stuart Bingham, Judd Trump, Mark Allen and Neil Robertson were the winners of last season’s four Home Nations events.
Murph a Surprise 16/1 Price Surf
Apart from short format games being conceived to be disadvantageous to Shaun Murphy, there are no reasons to oppose him at a whopping 16/1 (best price with Betfred). He has been the player of the season being a finalist in the Shanghai Masters and International Championship, while winning the China Championship just a fortnight ago. Beating Rod Lawler in a World Open qualifier last week, his 2019/20 season record now reads 18 wins from 21 matches played.
Barry Hawkins gave his confidence a boost by taking the non-ranking Paul Hunter Classic in August and he has had a huge week away from the TV cameras at the BetVictor Championship League. In the opening group of that competition he went six-from-six registering convincing victories over Mark Selby, Neil Robertson, Jack Lisowski and Mark Selby. Housed at the opposite end of the draw, there’s no harm in taking Hawkins as a second selection at 20/1 (also with Betfred).

And if you are really greedy why not throw Jack Lisowski (33/1 generally) into your snooker betting portfolio. He’s never won a ranking event but he is ranked World No. 11 which pays testament to his ability. If anyone looks made for a quick format snooker tournament it’s this guy.
Looking for an Opening Double
Amongst the opening round games it’s probably best to concentrate on matches featuring the lesser lights when looking for some good value snooker bets. Of these players Mark Davis, who was a surprise finalist in 2018 and lives locally, can account for Graeme Dott in a game scheduled to start at 8pm on Tuesday.

At World No. 24 Lyu Haotian is ranked 49 places higher than Zhang Anda who is eight years his senior. Yet the snooker bookmakers can barely separate the pair and Betfair are offering 5/6 (1.83) about the former player.
A finalist in the Indian Open 12 months ago, Lyu Haotian looks massively over-priced in the current English Open snooker betting odds. You had to be impressed with his 126 and 132 break in the 2019 International Championship opening round. …Anda has not recorded a century break amongst the 44 frames of competitive action he has played this season.
