Champions League Semifinals Betting Previews
Liverpool will have been happy to have drawn Roma in the last four, but manager Jurgen Klopp will ensure that there is no complacency against the Italians. The other tie is a serious heavyweight clash between Bayern Munich and the two-time defending champions, Real Madrid.
Liverpool v Roma Betting Preview (7.45pm, Tuesday)
Liverpool have yet to taste defeat in 12 games in this season’s Champions’ League and have racked up 39 goals in the competition to date. Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino have 9 goals apiece and Sadio Mane has chipped in with a further seven. They’ve also not conceded at Anfield in their last four Champions’ League ties.
AS Roma have come through both their knock-out ties in this season’s competition by courtesy of away goals, first edging past Shakhtar Donetsk before remarkably overturning a 4-1 deficit against Barcelona at the Stadio Olimpico in the quarter-finals. They’ve actually lost their last three Champions’ League games on the road and their only victory on their travels in five attempts in this season’s tournament was a 2-1 win at Azerbaijan’s Qarabag.
Much of the attention in this tie will focus upon Salah, the prolific Egyptian striker Liverpool signed from Roma last summer for what already has to go down as a bargain £37 million.
Liverpool are firm favourites to secure a 1st leg advantage, with William Hill’s 4/7 (1.57) being the best available odds on a home win on Tuesday night.
That seems too short for this stage of the competition and given the quality of the opposition, but given Liverpool’s ability to start at a furious pace on these occasions, backing them to be ahead at the interval on the Half-time Result market at Evens (2.00) with BetFred looks a more attractive Champions League betting odds.
Real Madrid v Bayern Munich Betting Preview (7.45pm, Wednesday)
Wednesday evening sees Bayern Munich and Real Madrid clash at the Allianz Arena. The teams met at the quarter-final stage of last season’s Champions’ League, with the Spanish side running out 6-3 winners on aggregate.
That scoreline doesn’t give a true reflection of the tie though, with the Germans being the better side in both legs and taking the 2nd leg into extra-time at the Bernabeu. Unfortunately for Bayern, they were by then down to 10-men following the controversial dismissal of Arturo Vidal a few minutes before the end of normal time and were picked off by Real in the latter stages.
Cristiano Ronaldo on the scoresheet again?
Bayern look to be in better shape this season under coach Jupp Heynckes than last under Carlo Ancelotti, although they will be without the long-term injured Manuel Neuer in goal.
The obvious threat to Bayern from the visitors comes from Cristiano Ronaldo, who has scored in each of his last 12 games for Real Madrid. In fact, he’s found the back of the net on no less than 22 occasions over that period. The 7/5 (2.40) available with 888sport on the Portuguese legend to be an ‘Anytime Goalscorer’ is a tempting bet given that he’s scored in all 10 of Real’s Champions’ League games this season to date (15 goals in this season’s competition in total).
Goals certainly look likely in this game and backing Over 2.75 Goals with BetVictor at 3/4 (1.75) looks a decent bet on Real Madrid v Bayern Munich. With that bet, if there are more than three goals in the game you will have a full winning bet, but if there are exactly three goals, then half your stake will be matched at the winning odds, with the other half of your stake being refunded to your account. If there are two goals or less, it would be a losing bet.
There is little to separate Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Liverpool in the outright market, although Liverpool’s odds obviously factor in that they are perceived to have the easiest route to the final. The Germans probably have the best overall squad of the four contenders and could provide the value here at 23/10 (3.30) with 888sport.
