Match predictions

Draw 14/5 – Stan James, Boylesports

Best bet

Over 3.5 goals 2/1 – William Hill

Past meetings

The pair have only met once since Fulham’s relegation to the second tier in 2014 and that was the opening day of the current season.

The Lilywhites emerged as 1-0 victors on that occasion thanks to Matt Smith’s goal, and indeed this is a fixture which has tended to heavily favour the home side in recent years.

At Craven Cottage, the home side have won the last six meetings while in the North East, the Magpies have won each of the past three games.

Stats

After back-to-back away wins against their two nearest rivals, Newcastle now lead the table by five points and are eleven clear of third-placed Huddersfield, but are patchy at home – their home form is the seventh best in the division.

By contrast, only two sides (one of whom is the Magpies) have a better away record than Fulham, who sit seventh.

Team News

Rafael Benitez will be without Rolando Aarons (Achilles tendon), Vurnon Anita (ankle) and Isaac Hayden (ankle) for the clash.

Lucas Piazon (fractured jaw) is Fulham’s only absentee.

Reason for bets

Newcastle’s two recent fantastic results have strengthened their grip further on automatic promotion and it may be tough for them to replicate the levels of energy that went into those two fixtures again.

Fulham are on a very strong run themselves – 13 points from their last five league games – and will be optimistic that they can get a positive result at a ground which has been far from a fortress this campaign – the Magpies have failed to win six of their 17 home fixtures.

A draw is a result which would suit both teams – ensuring the West London club continue their momentum towards a possible late play-off push while Newcastle stay on course for automatic promotion with another tough fixture ticked off.

Odds of 14/5 are extremely favourable for a draw, and whilst this league is hugely unpredictable both these sides have similar levels of ability and are both in good form – a draw seems likely.

These two sides are first and third respectively in terms of goals scored in the Championship this season (Newcastle 69, Norwich 60, Fulham 59) – so expect a high-scoring encounter.

Both these sides have scored two goals or more in each of their last five league games and odds of 2/1 four goals or more are hugely generous and enticing, this could potentially be a pulsating encounter.
