Here’s our Cheltenham Festival Yankee Bet for 2020…
The Cheltenham Festival week is here and we are putting our 4 ‘good things’ for this year’s Festival into a Cheltenham Festival Yankee Bet. So it’s time to get serious and approach this gambling festival with the clear intention of winning money.
Mares Hurdle – Benie Des Dieux 4/7
In this year’s Mares Hurdle race on the opening day (4.10pm) Benie Des Dieux, who fell at the final fence when clear, looks a shoe in again this year with the main challenge coming from Honeysuckle.
And a Cheltenham banker bet she looks too with Willie Mullins declaring: “I think she [Benie Des Dieux] could be better than Annie Power. She’s a serious, serious talent. She went to France last year and took on their best mare (De Bon Coeur) in the French Champion Hurdle and beat her.”
Form students will know that race was over the Stayer Hurdle trip of three-miles. As for Honeysuckle, after winning the Irish Champion Hurdle at the start of February she is now seven-from-seven over hurdles.
Cross Country Chase – Easysland 3/1
Next up, Easysland could upset a small apple cart by beating the great but ageing Tiger Roll, who has had an interrupted training schedule, in the Cross Country race (4.10pm on Wednesday).
A winner of his last six starts (all cross country races) the French trained horse won over course and distance in December and aged just 6 could be the next big thing.
Champion Bumper – Appreciate It 13/8
The Willie Mullins trained Appreciate It will run in the Champion Bumper (5.30pm, Wednesday) and while odds of around 7/4 is a short price, he’s probably still value having won the Dublin Racing Festival with ease – it’s the race 2018 Champion Bumper winner, Relegate, and 2019 Champion Bumper winner Envoi Allen used as a stepping-stone.
Stayers Hurdle – Paisley Park 4/6
To finish off our Cheltenham Festival yankee bet we are going for owner Andrew Gemmell’s pride and joy Paisley Park (3.30pm, Thursday) who we expect to romp home in Thursday’s feature race, the Stayers Hurdle. He will be looking to make it back-to-back wins in this Grade 1 race.
So that’s our four of the best for a Cheltenham Festival Yankee bet all sorted. We need at least 2 to win to get a return (damage limitation!), 3 to make a profit, and all 4 for the jackpot. Good luck!
