No Contest if Danny Noppert brings his Grand Slam form to BDO’s World Champs
BDO Darts Tips:
Danny Noppert 6/1 (Ladbrokes)
The 2017 British Darts Organisation’s World Championship gets underway on January 7th at its home for the past 30 years, the Lakeside Country Club at Frimley Green, Surrey. However the competition will have a brand-new broadcaster in 2017 with Channel 4 taking over from the BBC.
Glen Durrant went off the 9/4 favourite for this competition last year but failed to progress beyond the quarter finals. Twelve months later the 46-year-old, the number 1 seed, is an even shorter price in the outright betting.
But given his advancing years, can we realistically depend on him to win the competition or simply make the final? He has never featured in the final two of this tournament after all.
Surely there is better value to be found elsewhere and at 12/1 (bet365 and BetVictor) last year’s victor, Scott Waites, has to be a name included on any BDO World Championships darts betting tips.
The 39-year-old is the only BDO representative to win the PDC’s Grand Slam of Darts (in 2010) and will be seeking his third World Championship crown after first capturing the title in 2013.
Remarkably Waites is only seeded sixth but that means he cannot face the outright favourite until the final and also avoids Jamie Hughes (top-priced 12/1 at Paddy Power) and three-time winner Martin Adams (successful in 2007, 2010 and 2011).
One player he could well bump into (in the third round) is Danny Noppert. The Number 3 seeded dartsmith is one of very few contestants in this competition who is still in his 20’s and is also very much on an upward curve.
During 2016 the Dutchman has made the final of the Dutch Open, won the Scottish Open, German Open and also claimed the Masters of Waregem. But he is probably best known for beating Mensur Suljovic (with a 101 3-dart average) and leading Gary Anderson 6-4 in this year’s Grand Slam of Darts.
Despite ultimately averaging over 100 against Anderson in the second round of the knockout stages, Noppert eventually bowed-out of the competition losing 10-9 to the Scotsman. It was still a remarkable performance and, if repeated, one that would be plenty good enough to land this tournament which has never seen a 98+ 3-dart average in any of its previous 39 finals.
6/1 (with Ladbrokes) is the best price available about Noppert who is making his BDO World Championship debut. It looks massive value!
