REASON FOR SOUTHAMPTON VS LIVERPOOL BETTING TIPS
Southampton have hit a poor run of form of late, having lost three consecutive Premier League matches prior to a 2-2 draw at Championship Norwich City on Saturday, a game they looked to have won until the Canaries equalized in stoppage-time.
As a result of the result at Carrow Road, it also meant that the Saints defence, so impressive earlier in the season, has now conceded 11 goals in those last four games. It probably hasn’t helped their cause that Jose Fonte has put in a transfer request, whilst speculation has also been rife as to potential bidders for Fonte’s central defensive partner, Virgil van Dijk.
Liverpool were also held to a draw at the weekend of course, although having made wholesale changes for the FA Cup tie at home to League Two Plymouth Argyle, Jurgen Klopp will revert to his tried and tested stars for the game at St. Mary’s. That could include a recall for Philippe Coutinho after six weeks absence with an ankle injury.
Sunday was a disappointment for Liverpool in a game they dominated, but it still means that they have lost just twice in all competitions this season. Surprisingly, those defeats were at Burnley and Southampton’s south coast neighbours, Bournemouth.
When Liverpool visited St. Mary’s in mid-November, the game finished goalless and we could well see another close game.
Despite the Saints current defensive woes and Liverpool’s front foot approach, this being a semi-final 1st leg is likely to result in a relatively cautious encounter early on and the 5/4 available with bet365 on the game being level at half-time looks decent value.
An inability to score goals has been Southampton’s main issue this term and without Charlie Austin it’s difficult to see them doing much to change that on Wednesday evening either. Not conceding will be particularly important as a result and it could mean that goals are at a premium here. The 9/10 on Under 2.5 Goals with MarathonBet might be worth a bet.
If looking for a Southampton v Liverpool Correct Score tip, then a 1-0 Liverpool win is on offer at 7/1 with William Hill. The 6/1 available with BetVictor on a 1-1 draw also has some appeal.
In terms of an Anytime Goalscorer, Roberto Firmino might be worth a small flutter at 11/4 with 888Sport. The same bookie also has Adam Lallana at 7/2 to make an unwelcome return to St. Mary’s with a goal.
