Free tips F1 Betting Tips: Canadian Grand Prix Predictions
Our resident F1 betting expert gives you the lowdown and some Canadian Grand Prix predictions and betting tips for this weekend’s race…
Get the Max out of Mercedes Power in Canada
Forget about Daniel Ricciardo winning the Monaco Grand Prix and his teammate, Max Verstappen, setting the fastest lap there. This Sunday’s Grand Prix race comes from the Giles Villeneuve Circuit in Montreal, Canada, and this high-speed and low-grip circuit is the polar opposite to the street circuit those two made their headlines on.
In fact, throw the pair out of all calculations as not only will this track prove to be the wrong type of test for their Red Bull cars. Daniel Ricciardo is set to start down the starting grid crippled by penalties for changing engine components on his car.
But it is not just a fast vehicle that is needed in Canada, reliability is also king as this track is a car cruncher.
On average, using F1 stats from the last dozen years, over five cars per-race fail to finish here. Brake failure is the main cause of DNF’s at this track, as long straights coupled with tight corners sees them endure a lot of pain.
Consequently our Canadian Grand Prix predictions are not looking beyond a Mercedes for pole position or the race win, while taking particular interest in the Mercedes-powered cars which possess the best top-end speed.
In Saturday’s qualification (7pm UK time) it is Lewis Hamilton who we confidently expect to go fastest.
The Englishman has started on pole just twice this year but he begun from the front here six times and every year since 2015. William Hill’s 13/8 (2.63) about him going fastest in qualification once more is a colossal price!
Mercedes Have The Power
There were five Mercedes powered cars in the top nine last year, and while the Ferrari is a better car this year, the teams which use their engines, Haas and Sauber, have not shown anything like their race winning pace.
It’s a similar story for Williams who use Mercedes engines but at least Force India, another Mercedes powered team, have shown some threatening pace – and taken a podium this season – and so my Canadian Grand Prix predictions say that Force India are the team that will have a great weekend.
You can back both Force India drivers, Sergio Perez and Esteban Ocon, at 11/10 to finish in the Top 10 with Bet Victor. They came fifth and sixth last year and the price also looks colossal.
Lewis to Match Michael with the Race Win
Lewis Hamilton is top-priced 13/10 with Black Type to take the race win. This would be his fourth consecutive victory here and seventh in total. And that would match Michael Schumacher’s outstanding record at this circuit. Come what may, the price is simply too big.
The Canadian Grand Prix takes place this weekend and the Circuit de Gilles Villeneuve has been Lewis Hamilton’s most successful F1 track 🏁

Safety Does It
The safety car has been needed here 50% of the time in the last 10 years. It is also been used in half of this season’s six races. With the increasing use of a ‘virtual safety car’ as a substitute everything points to it being more likely to not be called into play on Sunday.
