REASON FOR WEST HAM UNITED VS MANCHESTER CITY BETTING TIPS
The FA Cup 3rd round gets underway on Friday evening with what is potentially the tie of the round between West Ham United and Manchester City.
The Hammers have failed to kick on after an impressive first season under Slaven Bilic and will be looking to a decent FA Cup run to give them some momentum going into the second half of their campaign.
It’s also a game that presents them with an opportunity to make their new stadium feel more like home with a win against quality opposition in what is sure to be a decent atmosphere.
Bilic’s problems are that, in addition to missing a number of players through injury, he is also without Cheikhou Kouyate and Andre Ayew due to international duty in the Africa Cup of Nations. There is also the possibility of Dimitri Payet being rested. Where the Hammers look particularly short is in attack, with Andy Carroll likely to lead the line alone.
Given Manchester City’s indifferent form, Pep Guardiola has an obligation to take the FA Cup more seriously than he would probably have wanted to and he has indicated that rotation could be kept to a minimum at the London Stadium.
Even so, injury and suspension also deprives Guardiola of several options and some minor tinkering with his starting line-up can’t be ruled out.
The Citizens are clearly more than a little fragile at present, but they should be too strong for a West Ham side that lacks their opponents’ strength in depth in dealing with so many absences. Consequently, a Manchester City win with over 2.5 goals in the match looks worth a punt.
It’s also a match where City could dominate from the start, so backing them on the Half-time/ Full-time Double Result could prove profitable.
Sergio Aguero is odds-on to be an Anytime Goalscorer, although the 9/10 available with Betway does have some appeal. Carroll might be a better option for the Hammers, with his aerial threat likely to be West Ham’s main focus of attack, particularly if Claudio Bravo is in goal. Carroll can be backed at 11/4 with Betfred to get his name on the scoresheet.
For correct score betting, a 3-1 Manchester City victory can be backed at 12/1 with Skybet.
Manchester City are 13/10 to Score in Both Halves with Paddy Power, which could be on the cards if Guardiola fields all his big guns.
