Well-handicapped Corach Rambler looks worthy favourite for Randox Grand National 2023

The Randox Grand National, the world’s most famous steeplechase, takes place at Aintree on Saturday 15th April at 5.15pm.

The Grand National is a true test of stamina, ran over a marathon trip of 4 miles 2 furlongs, so it’s vital to select a horse that will go the full distance when looking for a potential winner.

Grand National Betting Tips & Pointers

Experience at Aintree is another bonus, with the fences at the Grand National being unique. It’s worth looking at regional Grand Nationals, such as the Midlands, Welsh and Scottish, for horses that have impressed in those races.

Likewise, Cheltenham experience is another factor worth taking into consideration, both in terms of recent form and in dealing with the noise and atmosphere of such a major sporting occasion.

Corach Rambler 7/1 favourite

As things stand, Corach Rambler is the marginal favourite with most bookmakers and can be backed at best odds of 7/1 with 888sport, having put in a great performance in winning the Ultima Handicap Chase for the second straight year at the Cheltenham Festival recently.

The handicapper has favoured Corach Rambler, who will be carrying just 10st 5lb and is sure to have plenty of backing from punters as a consequence.

Corach Rambler to win – 7/1 (8.00) at 888sport

What happened last year?

  • The Grand National 2022 winner, Noble Yeats, went off as a 50/1 chance
  • Noble Yeats became the first seven-year-old to win the race since Bogskar in 1940

Can Noble Yeats win back-to-back Nationals?

Last year’s race was won by Noble Yeats is the 8/1 second favourite with William Hill to secure back-to-back Grand National triumphs.

In 2022 he was ridden by the now retired amateur jockey Sam Waley-Cohen and trained by Emmet Mullins. In last year’s race, the pre-race 15/2 favourite, Any Second Now, finished 2 1/4 lengths back in second, with Delta Work in third and Santini in fourth.

Noble Yeats 8/1

This year, Noble Yeats will be carrying 11st 11lb, compared to the 10st 10lb in last year’s triumph. It looks a big ask. That said, there have been several Grand National winners in the recent past – Many Clouds, Neptune Collonges and Tiger Roll – who have prevailed despite being highly-rated by the handicapper. Class can sometimes hold the edge over a well-handicapped horse.

In addition, Noble Yeats also impressed in staying on to finish fourth in the Cheltenham Gold Cup recently and is expected to be competitive again at Aintree.

Noble Yeats to win – 8/1 (9.00) at William Hill

Delta Work 12/1

Delta Work has already been well-backed to go well again this year’s race at 12/1 with BoyleSports, having also secured back-to-back Cheltenham wins after victory at this year’s Cross Country Chase.

Gaillard Du Mesnil 12/1

Gaillard Du Mesnil, on offer at odds of 12/1 with BetFred, was a somewhat fortuitous winner of this year’s National Hunt Chase at Cheltenham, benefiting after Mahler Mission fell when clear at the second-last. Despite winning, Gaillard Du Mesnil wasn’t convincing and there look to be other horses in better form.

Gaillard Du Mesnil to win – 7/1 (8.00) at Betfred

Mr Incredible 14/1

Mr Incredible is a 14/1 shot with Betway, having finished third in Cheltenham’s Kim Muir Handicap Chase. It’s perhaps worth noting that Mr Incredible has never finished outside the top three over fences.

Mr Incredible to win – 14/1 (15.00) at Betway

Any Second Now 14/1

The 2022 Grand National runner-up, Any Second Now, is a 14/1 chance with William Hill. In this year’s race, Any Second Now will be carrying a top weight of 11st 12lb, which certainly has to be taken into account.

Any Second Now to win – 14/1 (15.00) at William Hill

Longhouse Poet 16/1

Galvin to win – 20/1 (21.00) at William Hill

Conflated 25/1

Conflated looked the part in finishing third behind Galopin Des Champs and Bravemansgame in the Cheltenham Gold Cup, although he joins Any Second Now in carrying a top weight of 11st 12lb. He’s available at 25/1 with Betway.
