Expert Betting Advice on Saturday’s Dog Racing
As was the case in 2001, when horse racing was closed down as a result of Foot & Mouth disease, greyhound racing has been cast into the spotlight. In fact, with football, darts, snooker, rugby and a host of other sports all suspended, the sport is set to attract more bets than ever.
Steel City Cup at Sheffield (9.18pm, Saturday)
Major finals normally attract a fair degree of interest regardless of the sports going on around them and on Saturday one such ‘Category 1’ competition reaches its conclusion with a £10,000 prize for the winner of the Steel City Cup at Sheffield (9.18pm).
Here Headford Ranger, the fastest of three semi-final winners, is the current 5/2 favourite with William Hill. However, being drawn in trap 5 and certain to dart towards the inside rail from trap-rise, the price has no appeal.
In fact his racing style should give the trap 6 runner, Deadly Expert, a golden highway to run down as he is the only dog in the field who is a classified ‘wide runner’. This dog is our strong fancy particularly at his standout 3/1 odds (available at Betfair) but our liking for him is not simply because of this favourable starting box.

The youngest runner in the field, Deadly Expert has had just four starts in his British career winning twice. He has produced some electric starts and has also recorded improved times during this competition.
Admittedly he would struggle to beat the favourite in a two runner race, but as he is the only greyhound who looks assured of a clear run to the opening bend in a minefield line-up featuring five ‘railers’, he the logical choice and the nap amongst our Saturday Lucky 15 greyhound racing tips.
Run Free Snowy goes for Champion Trainer Mark Wallis in the 3.27pm at Henlow. She won well last time and although upgraded is expected to adopt and early advantage in this six-bend race.
Earlier in the evening at Monmore Queen Jessiej is expected to land the 6.49pm, the Ladbrokes Puppy Derby final. An ‘out and gone’ running style with some fast runs on her card, this one should quickly put this race to bed and reward her supporters at odds of 6/5 (which is available with the sponsors).
And completing our Lucky 15 bet is a Hove race where we will be hoping Shotgun Express can take his record to five wins from his last eight races in the 8.38pm.
