Horse Racing Betting Tips for Southwell
12.35pm Southwell – Tonto’s Spirit (Each Way) at 10/1 with bet365*
Being fit and fresh from a recent run on the Flat is looking like it could be a key factor on Wednesday afternoon’s Jumps card at Southwell and Tonto’s Spirit certainly qualifies on that score.
Diane Sayer’s eight-year-old ran just six days ago over 2 miles at Haydock Park, and although he finished last, it will have done him no harm whatsoever and will probably have brought him on for this race.
Tonto’s Spirit has won three and placed in three of his nine Chase starts and was running well off marks in the 130’s last season. He certainly has plenty going for him in this field and warrants an each-way betting interest.

3.10pm Southwell – Byron Flyer at 5/1 with William Hill
The Ian Williams-trained nine-year-old Byron Flyer actually held an entry in the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes at Royal Ascot last week but he did not run on account of the ground.
Byron Flyer was last seen running on the Flat at Newmarket where he finished a respectable fourth at 40/1 and he will certainly be much more at home here over his favoured hurdles. He boasts a 42% strike rate (5 wins) over the smaller obstacles and has amassed £40k in prize money doing so. Williams is generally very astute in his placement of this Anchor Men-owned gelding and he can be in the shake-up once again.
Paul Nicholls’ Rhythm Is A Dancer was showing all the signs of a revival before the enforced racing break came along and is dangerous to dismiss.

3.40pm Southwell – Wells De Lune at 14/1 with Skybet
Well renowned for his impressive strike rate with summer jumpers, Peter Bowen will certainly have the nine-year-old Wells De Lune fit and raring to go first time out after a break.
The prolific winner is understandably carrying top weight given his form last season and connections will be hopeful he can add to his existing tally of 10 career wins. Wells De Lune has won in similar going conditions and Sean Bowen takes the ride.
Carntop finished halfway down the field in the Ascot Stakes at the Royal Meeting and will have a fitness edge over many of these. He ticks several boxes at a big price.
