Italian Grand Prix Bets & Picks
There’s Formula One betting value aplenty in the early F1 betting markets for this weekend’s Formula 1 race from Monza, Italy. Read on for our top rated Italian Grand Prix bets and picks…
Power to Rule in Italy Grand Prix
Traditionally the fastest of all the F1 circuits, Monza gives little hope to underpowered cars who can often disguise their horsepower deficit with good aerodynamics which sees them corner quicker than their quicker rivals. The Red Bull team is the perfect case in point.
But the fastest cars in the straight-line speed standings normally win in Italy which explains why 11 of the last 15 race winners have started on pole, including seven of the last nine. Furthermore the best form pointer to this contest is always the results from Spa Francorchamps which took place just a week ago.
At Spa, the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc showed awesome qualifying pace while Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton was probably the faster race car. Only some hindering by Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel prevented Hamilton from winning, he was beaten by less than a second. It may seem foolhardy to suggest a car can lose qualifying but win a race but their configuration for a one-lap dash compared to the set-up for a full race is massively different – and up to three seconds a lap slower.
So it really is best to simply ‘lift’ the results of last week and overlay them on this race. That means we think Charles Leclerc will go fastest in qualifying (11/10 with Betfair) while Mercedes, aided by their excellent tacticians, can get Hamilton to the front by the final laps.
The Force is Strong and the “Policy Designed”
The Racing Point team uses fast and reliable Mercedes engines and the team took their second double points finish of 2019 in Spa last weekend.
Sergio Perez fared best of their drivers with a strong sixth placed finish and he enjoyed a similar finishing position in Baku (another track with ultra-high speeds). Therefore he looks one of our better Italian Grand Prix bets to breach the top-10 (a points finish) at Even money (2.00) with bet365* for a second consecutive weekend.
Go High on Finishing Numbers
The finishing numbers should be high here, they normally are. 20-15-22-20-20-18-18-18-18 cars have completing the race in the past ten seasons.
Allied to exceptional finishing figures in 2019 (apart from the German Grand Prix where it rained heavily) and a favourable weather forecast for Sunday, you have to conclude William Hill’s 11/8 about Over 17.5+ Classified Race Finishers is an excellent proposition. (Drivers are classified as a official finisher if they complete at least 90% of the race)
