SCUNTHORPE UNITED VS PETERBOROUGH UNITED PREDICTIONS
Scunthorpe United at 23/20 with BetVictor
TO WIN TO NIL:
Scunthorpe United at 11/4 with Betfair
Scunthorpe United host Peterborough United in their first match of 2017, with Graham Alexander hoping his Scunthorpe side can keep up their push for automatic promotion from League One to the Championship. They have won just once in their past four matches, so they need to get the new calendar year off to a good start if they are to set the right tone for the second half of the season.
Peterborough, meanwhile, are steadily climbing up the league table with five wins from their past seven and their manager Grant McCann will be full of confidence, especially if his team can pick up a further confidence boost by winning their New Year’s Eve home match against second bottom Coventry City.
With just two days between this match and the two sides’ New Year’s Eve appointments, both sets of players are set to be tired for this one, while some of them might miss out altogether. Scunthorpe’s Conor Townsend and David Mirfin have been suffering from injury and could be on the sidelines once again, while Peterborough will be missing the long-term injured Jermaine Anderson. Marcus Maddison – who has scored six and assisted eight so far this campaign – returned to McCann’s side last week after a recent injury, but had a disappointing hour and may require some more time to return to his best.
SCUNTHORPE UNITED VS PETERBOROUGH UNITED WINNER ODDS
This one is predicted to be tight, with Scunthorpe top of the division and with Peterborough enjoying a run of positive results. Past scorelines offer little insight given that Scunthorpe’s 2-0 win over this Monday’s opponents in their November meeting came against a very sub-par Peterborough side and the Posh are not expected to play as poorly this time around.
At the same time, a repeat of last season’s result in this fixture – a 4-0 Peterborough win – is also unlikely and fans at Glanford Park will expect to see a much more even contest.
The home side are the slight favourites, priced at betting odds of 23/20 with BetVictor, while Paddy Power are offering odds of 14/5 for a Peterborough win. The draw, meanwhile, is priced at 13/5 by multiple bookmakers.
SCUNTHORPE UNITED VS PETERBOROUGH UNITED ANYTIME GOALSCORER ODDS
At odds of 5/4 from Paddy Power, Josh Morris is the man the bookies tip to get himself a goal in this one and with 15 so far this season the 25-year-old is currently on a roll.
SCUNTHORPE UNITED VS PETERBOROUGH UNITED VERDICTS
Although it could be a close one, Scunthorpe are still a team worth tipping in this fixture. They may have lost it 4-0 last season, but they recovered from that home humiliation to go unbeaten at Glanford Park in a year of league action.
They’ve not lost in front of their home crowd in League One since then and they’ve even won 11 of their past 15 home matches. That makes a home win worth a bet, while 888Sport’s odds of 11/4 for the home side to win to nil will also raise some eyebrows.
If Marcus Maddison is still not his usual effective self then it will be difficult for Peterborough to get on the score sheet against the third best defence in the division.
