BARNET VS PLYMOUTH PREDICTIONS
Plymouth Argyle at 6/4 with SkyBet
BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE:
Pick Yes at 4/6 with Boylesports
Plymouth will pay Barnet a visit in their first match of 2017 as Derek Adams’ men aim to keep up their push for promotion. They have a match against Crawley Town to come before this trip to The Hive Stadium, but Plymouth currently sit joint-top of League Two alongside Doncaster Rovers and will not want to drop any more points after winning just two of their past six league contests.
Barnet, on the other hand, are enjoying a fine spell. They have climbed up to eighth spot in the table with four wins out of their past five League Two outings, although their home form continues to prove a thorn in manager Rossi Eames’ side. Barnet have won just three of their 11 matches in north London this league season and most recently fell to a 2-1 loss to Stevenage the week before Christmas.
Also frustrating Eames will be the fact that Michael Gash and James Pearson remain out with their long-term knee issues, while Shaun Batt has a hamstring pain and Ben Tomlinson has a quad injury. Tom Champion, though, is one the mend and could return for Barnet, while new signing Dan Sweeney will be available for his debut.
For Plymouth, Ryan Donaldson is out with a broken cheekbone, but they don’t have quite as long an injury list given that Nauris Bulvitis and Ben Purrington could recover from hamstring issues.
BARNET VS PLYMOUTH WINNER ODDS
Given Barnet’s aforementioned problems at home and given that Plymouth are the best away side in the whole division with 24 points taken from a possible 30, it is hard to ignore SkyBet’s 6/4 odds for an away win.
It is, however, worth noting that Barnet defeated Plymouth 2-0 in November when they visited the south coast, with that match coming in the middle of a three-game losing streak for Adams’ side. That – and the way in which Plymouth gave up a 3-1 lead against Wycombe last time out to draw 3-3 – proved that they are vulnerable and will encourage some punters to consider BetFred’s 19/10 odds for a Barnet win.
BARNET VS PLYMOUTH VERDICTS
While Plymouth are favourites, this is certainly not going to be a walk in the park for the joint leaders. Barnet’s impressive win last time out means they are not to be underestimated, whether by Adams or by anyone making betting predictions. Yet Plymouth are league leaders for a reason and the 6/4 odds could prove excellent value.
Another sensible tip could be to back both teams to score in this one, which is priced at 4/6 by Boyle Sports. That has happened in 64% of matches at The Hive Stadium in 2016/17, so it wouldn’t shock anyone if it happened again.
