Reasons for Plymouth v Carlisle betting tips
A long trip down south awaits the Carlisle fans on Saturday morning. The two towns are separated by 389 miles, making it English football’s longest journey. In the league table, however, these two are neighbours. Second-placed Argyle are just four points off their third-placed opponents, although the home side do possess a game in hand.
Argyle were desperately unlucky not to get promoted last season. A late blip meant they missed automatic promotion, and they eventually lost out in the play-offs. They’re desperate not to let last season repeat itself, although they’ve struggled for wins of late. Most surprising, perhaps, was their home loss to relegation strugglers Leyton Orient, although they were outdone by two late goals rather than being generally outplayed.
The Cumbrians have also been in erratic form in recent weeks. They’ve won their last two away matches 2-1, but also lost by three goals to both Portsmouth and Blackpool at home. Whatever happens, the outcome of this match will have major consequences at the top of the table. Whilst Plymouth will be looking to dislodge Doncaster from top spot, Carlisle will be hoping to leapfrog the Pilgrims.
A draw wouldn’t be too bad a result for the home side, as they’d keep their four-point lead over Carlisle. Nevertheless, after last season’s failures they’ll be keen to make as much ground as possible on their nearest rivals. They’ve won three of their last four home league matches, and expect them to push hard again for the points. Back a home win at 13/10 with Bet365. These sides also tend to average over 2.5 goals, so a home win and over 2.5 goals is tempting at 3/1 with Bet365.
