REASONS FOR PLYMOUTH ARGYLE VS STEVENAGE BETTING TIPS
Following their heroic goalless draw at Anfield in the FA Cup on Sunday, it’s back to League Two action for Plymouth Argyle this weekend with Stevenage being the visitors to Home Park.
It’s vital that Plymouth focus on the task in hand here and don’t get too distracted by thoughts of Wednesday’s replay with Liverpool, with the three points available here being vital to their quest to keep their bid for automatic promotion on track and so end what is now a sixth season on the bottom rung of the Football League.
For a team that’s 2nd in the table going into the weekend’s fixtures, the Pilgrims record at Home Park this season is nothing special, with them having suffered three home defeats already this term. Indeed, they’ve collected just as many points away from home as they have at Home Park – in two fewer games!
Stevenage are 13th in the table going into this match and will need to start showing some consistency if they are to close the six-point gap on the play-off places. As is the case with their opponents, Stevenage’s away record is better than their home form, having won no fewer than half of their 12 games on the road.
Even so, it can’t be forgotten that this is a team lying 2nd in the table at home to one in 13th position. There are currently 15 points separating the teams and Argyle have a game in hand. In addition, when the teams met in the reverse fixture at the Lamex Stadium in early October, it was Plymouth who ran out 2-1 victors.
Taking all that into account, the 11/10 available with bet365 on Plymouth to win this game looks big.
Plymouth are always one of the better supported teams in the lower divisions and after Sunday’s result they should get even greater backing. It should result in Argyle starting the game on the front foot, so backing the 1st Half as the Highest Scoring Half might be worth a look at 5/2 with Coral. With the Liverpool replay in mind, they would surely look to sit on what they have if ahead at the break, rather than being too adventurous.
This could well be a close game, so backing Plymouth to win by exactly one goal in the Winning Margin market at 14/5 with Betfair looks a distinct possibility.
If looking for a Correct Score, then a 2-1 home win could be the way to go at 17/2 with BetVictor. In terms of an Anytime Goalscorer, Graham Carey has already bagged nine from midfield for Argyle this season and can be backed at 9/4 with Paddy Power to oblige. Stevenage’s Matt Gooden is worth considering at 9/4 with bet365 too.
