REASONS FOR STEVENAGE VS NEWPORT COUNTY BETTING TIPS
Two teams struggling for form in League Two meet at the Lamex Stadium on Saturday, as Stevenage play host to bottom of the table Newport County.
Home advantage has counted for little for Stevenage this season, with them having lost 8 of their 12 League Two games on their home turf. Current form is also poor, with four defeats in their last five matches having seen them slump to 15th in the table.
Stevenage are still within 8 points of a play-off place as things stand though and those four recent losses were all against teams in the Top 10 (as was the one win against Barnet).
Former Stevenage manager Graham Westley is now in charge of the Exiles but, after an encouraging start following his appointment, Newport have had another slump in form. Westley’s side lost 2-1 at Wycombe Wanderers on Monday, for what was their seventh straight defeat in League Two.
With the club heading for relegation, Westley has been swift to act in the January transfer window. Already a couple of young strikers have been brought in, with Jaanai Gordon joining on loan from West Ham United and Aaron Williams coming in on a permanent basis from Peterborough United. In addition, Millwall defender Sid Nelson is also said to be on the verge of joining on loan and Westley has indicated that there could yet be further recruits ahead of Saturday’s game.
Stevenage won the reverse fixture 2-0 at Rodney Parade a month ago and look the best bet to win this match at 6/5 with Betway. Newport’s new recruits may make a difference in the long term, but they will surely need time to gel with those already at the club.
This game should be good for a few goals, with Stevenage’s matches averaging 3.08 goals per game and Newport not far behind at 2.96. If you want goals, these are two of the great entertainers in League Two this season, so backing Over 2.5 Goals at 19/20 with Coral looks a decent shout.
The 2nd Half looks good for any Highest Scoring Half bets at 11/10 with Betway. This season, 70% of goals at the Lamex Stadium have come after the interval. In Newport’s case, 61% of goals in their away games have come after the break.
Staying on the goal theme, Walker could be worth an interest as an Anytime Goalscorer at 23/10 with Paddy Power. For a Stevenage v Newport County Correct Score betting tip, then a 3-1 home win at 17/1 with BetVictor has some appeal.
