Burnley v Chelsea Past Meetings
These two sides have met six times since 2008, with all but one ending in victory for the Blues – a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge in February 2015.
The last time the two played each other at Burnley’s homeground was the opening day of the 2014/15 season where the hosts took the lead through Scott Arfield before the West London side came back with three unanswered goals.
Burnley are a side who rarely concede many goals and these encounters are typical of that trend, with low-scoring Chelsea victories the norm.
Burnley v Chelsea Stats
No side in all of England’s top four divisions has won a greater percentage of their points at home than Burnley (97%), having won only one point from eleven away games but triumphing in nine of their thirteen matches at Turf Moor.
Chelsea are still unbeaten outside of London at any ground this season, with their only losses on the road coming at Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur – Antonio Conte’s have won more points (26) than any other side on their travels.
Burnley v Chelsea Team News
Republic of Ireland international midfielder Jeff Hendrick will miss the tie through suspension following his early red card at Watford last week, while long-term absentee Dean Marney (knee ACL) remains out. Belgian midfielder Steven Defour is also a major doubt with a hamstring injury. New signings Robbie Brady and Ashley Westwood are likely to feature.
Chelsea star forward Eden Hazard is a doubt with a slight hamstring injury, although he is predicted to recover in time.
Reason for Burnley v Chelsea Betting Tips
Time and time again Chelsea have been presented with a tricky fixture this season and more often than not they have met it with ruthless efficiency, taking all three points and usually keeping a clean sheet in the process.
Conte’s side have won eight of their last nine away outings and conceded only four goals in the process – with a 2-0 defeat at White Hart Lane the only blotch on an otherwise impeccable, sustained run of results.
Chelsea are supreme at maximising their chances, punishing opponents mistakes and ensuring they maintain their own discipline and whilst them winning this match does not represent outstanding value in itself, it is hard to make an argument for any other outcome. The odds for Chelsea winning to nil – which has been the case in six of their last nine league away outings – are extremely tempting, especially as Burnley (26) have scored six fewer goals than second-from-bottom Crystal Palace.
