REASON FOR CRYSTAL PALACE VS CHELSEA BETTING TIPS
On the back of 10 consecutive victories, Chelsea are very much the form team in the Premier League. They are already assured of topping the table at Christmas and a win at Selhurst Park would see them temporarily extend their lead at the top to nine points.
With two of their closest challengers, Manchester City and Arsenal, facing each other on Sunday and Liverpool at Goodison Park for the Merseyside derby on Monday, three points at Crystal Palace could ensure a very useful cushion for the Blues going into the festive season.
The 1-0 win at Sunderland on Wednesday evening was Chelsea’s 13th in 16 Premier League matches this season and the ninth victory ‘to nil’. They are scoring goals (34 to date at an average of 2.13 per match), but also keeping things secure at the back, with just 11 goals conceded at a rate of 0.69 goals per game.
Crystal Palace are 16th in the table as things stand, with a three-point gap above the drop-zone. After going down late on to a 2-1 defeat at home to Manchester United in the week, the visit of Chelsea to Selhurst Park probably isn’t the Christmas present they would have asked for.
The Eagles have had few problems scoring goals this season, with their total of 28 (1.75 goals per game) only being surpassed by the current top four teams in the Premier League. Their problems are defensively, with their 31 goals conceded (1.94 goals per game) only being surpassed by Swansea City and Hull City.
With regards to goalscorers, Diego Costa (12 goals this season) and Eden Hazard (8) are back to their best for Chelsea this season but, after what was a largely wasted season at Liverpool, Christian Benteke has also chipped in with eight goals for Crystal Palace. Benteke’s a 3/1 shot with Betfred for anytime goalscorer, which looks worth a punt given that he was on the mark in both of Liverpool’s league matches against Chelsea last term.
In terms of the match result, it’s difficult to make a case for anything other than a Chelsea win here, particularly with Palace missing a number of players. However, best odds of 8/13 for a Chelsea win are not hugely attractive. On that basis and taking into account Palace’s porous defensive record, the best option looks to be backing a Chelsea victory with Over 2.5 Goals in the game.
If looking for a correct score bet, then those Palace stats coupled with Chelsea’s attacking threat would suggest a few goals could be on the cards. A 3-1 Chelsea win at 12/1 with Bet365 has some appeal.
CRYSTAL PALACE VS CHELSEA STATS
2016 has been a fairly disastrous year for Crystal Palace in the Premier League, with them averaging just 0.74 points per game. Over 35 games, they’ve won just 26 points – four less than Chelsea have won in their last 10 matches.
Both Teams To Score (BTTS) has occurred in 88% of Crystal Palace’s home matches this season, but in only 38% of Chelsea’s away games.
CRYSTAL PALACE TEAM NEWS
Alan Pardew’s task isn’t made any easier in having several players ruled out this weekend, with James Tomkins (groin), Bakary Sako (muscle), Connor Wickham (knee), Loic Remy (calf and unable to play against his parent club), Steve Mandanda (knee), Jonathan Benteke (knee) and Pape Souare (broken leg) all sidelined.
CHELSEA TEAM NEWS
Eden Hazard is set to return from injury to reclaim his place in the Chelsea starting line-up with Cesc Fabregas, scorer of the only goal in the midweek win at Sunderland, the player likely to make way.
