Wright now has the Right Form and Credentials
Peter Wright was majestic in last week’s Premier League. Dispensing of Adrian Lewis with a 7-2 score-line, he averaged a colossal 119.5 which is the second highest televised 3-dart average in history. And in no way think Lewis played badly, in reply he posted a 109 average which was the second highest recorded on the night.
Wright went on to win the Coral UK Open at the weekend. This was his first victory in nine televised tournament appearances which cannot have done his confidence any harm. Once again his 3-dart average was colossal, averaging out at 101 for the entire tournament.
In this rich vein of form and with a rather large monkey now off his back, it will be nonsensical opposing Peter Wright against James Wade this week in Glasgow, which technically puts him on home turf.
Old foes Taylor and Lewis could Tie
The Lewis vs Taylor match which opens Thursday’s card is fascinating. Adrian Lewis played well in defeat last week, arguably better than any other player on the night despite an overwhelming defeat.
But he has suffered three defeats and enjoyed just one win in five games during the 2017 Premier League. Conversely Phil Taylor heads the table (with two wins and three draws) but his check-out and 3-dart averages are poor and his 180 scoring is simply dire.
This pair are old sparring partners and team-mates in the World Cup of Darts. Given their insight into each other’s game and considering the preponderance of 6-6 draws in this year’s Premier League the stalemate scenario does not seem bad value at 4/1 with Coral and SkyBet.
MVG’s Wellbeing in Question
Michael van Gerwen missed last week’s Premier League night and also this past weekend’s UK Open with a back injury. He has reportedly had intensive treatment and is both fit and set to return on Thursday. This is obviously not the ideal preparation for any player and anyone who wants to back the Dutch ace at 2/9 should book themselves into the Priory.
In fact, against Kim Huybrechts who has attained three draws from his five games in the league, we will take some of the whopping 9/1 that is on offer about this one also proving to be a stalemate.
