Liverpool v Tottenham Stats
The last three head-to-heads have ended in a draw, with Spurs’ last away win coming back in 2011 – when Gareth Bale and Luka Modric were still at the club. Spurs have actually only beaten Liverpool six times at Anfield in 73 games.
The Reds have only lost once at home this season, but have won just four of their last 10 league games.
Liverpool Team News
Ragnar Klavan and Dejan Lovren are slight doubts for Liverpool – the former due to illness and the latter with a knee problem. Jurgen Klopp may be tempted to re-shuffle his defence due to recent results.
Tottenham Team News
Spurs will be missing two first-choice defenders, with Danny Rose out with a knee problem and Jan Vertonghen still recovering from ligament damage. Georges-Kevin N’Koudou and Erik Lamela also remain sidelined.
Reasons for Liverpool v Tottenham betting tips
On paper, it would seem the perfect time to be facing Liverpool. The Reds have slipped out of the Champions League places, and have won just one of their first 10 games in all competitions in 2017.
Nevertheless, it would be unwise to rule out a Liverpool revival. Jurgen Klopp and his team will know the importance of Saturday’s clash – and so will the fans – so expect a much improved performance and a blistering atmosphere. They’ll also be buoyed by their opponents failure to perform at Anfield in recent years. Spurs have won just one league fixture at the famous ground since 1993.
The London club have been imperious at home this season, but their away form has been somewhat disappointing. They’ve managed just four wins from 12 on the road, and have struggled against the top sides. Two of their worst performances this season came away from home against the two Manchester sides, with Pochettino’s men desperately lucky to come away from the Etihad with a point. They also drew with Arsenal at the Emirates.
Spurs’ inability to impose themselves away from home against the top sides, and Liverpool’s need to get a result, suggests a home win is on the cards. Liverpool will play with similar tactics to those of Man. City – pressing Spurs high up the field so they can’t play out from the back. You can back it to work with a home win at 5/4 with Paddy Power.
Sadio Mane tore Spurs apart in the reverse fixture, and he seemed to play with extra motivation against ex-head coach Pochettino. Back him to get the first goal at 15/8 with Paddy Power.
