Liverpool v Watford Past Meetings
This will be the 24th competitive fixture between the two clubs, with the Merseyside club ahead on the head-to-head record with 17 wins compared to Watford’s four.
The two last met on the opening day of the Premier League season, when they played out a thrilling 3-3 draw – Miguel Britos netting a dramatic last-minute equaliser for the Hornets.
However, Liverpool had won each of the previous three clashes between the sides including last season’s 6-1 victory at Anfield, which included a brace from Sadio Mane.
Watford’s only victory at Anfield came in August 1999 while their last win of any kind over the Reds came in December 2015 – a 3-0 victory.
Liverpool v Watford Stats
Saturday’s loss at Old Trafford was Liverpool’s first defeat in seven and brought an end to their four-game winning streak, which had seen them score 13 goals and concede just once.
Perhaps surprisingly, Liverpool have only the fifth strongest home record in the division – with nine wins and six draws from their 15 league matches at Anfield to date.
Watford have lost seven of their last eight matches away from Vicarage Road – a run stretching back to November, which has seen them score just twice and secure just one point..
United have won nine of their last 12 matches in all competitions and have lost only once in their last 51 home matches in all competitions.
Liverpool v Watford Team News
Liverpool have a fully-fit squad with the exception of defender Nathaniel Clyne, who still needs to regain fitness.
Javi Gracia’s Watford are undergoing an injury crisis with nine first-team players unavailable including Gerard Deulofeu, Jerome Sinclair, Tom Cleverley, Christian Kabasele, Molla Wague, Younes Kaboul, Nathaniel Chalobah and Craig Cathcart.
Reason for Liverpool v Watford Bets
This is an ideal fixture for Liverpool to bounce back from their recent defeat at United, due to Watford’s awful form on the road and having an unbeaten home record.
Javi Gracia has significantly improved his side’s home form but their form on the road has been awful and Anfield is one of the most difficult grounds for any visiting side.
There is a small danger that Jurgen Klopp’s men are a side who can be rocked by a below-par result, such as their back-to-back defeats to Swansea and West Brom in January, but they will be keen to put any doubts to bed in this match.
Sadio Mane has scored three goals in three Liverpool appearances against the Hornets, including netting in the fixture on the opening day.
The Senegalese forward’s pace could well be enough to expose an injury-hit Watford’s defence, who have conceded five goals in their last two away games.
