Man City v Everton Past Meetings
Last time these two sides met proved to be a nadir for City last season, crashing to a crushing 4-0 defeat at Goodison Park against a flowing Everton.
The Citizens record in this fixture in modern times is not overly strong – they’ve drawn each of the last two matches in the league at home and have won only seven of the past 22 meetings in all competitions dating back to 2008.
The last meeting at the Etihad finished in a 1-1 draw, with Nolito cancelling out Romelu Lukaku’s earlier goal – both players have since left their respective clubs.
Man City v Everton Stats
City are undefeated at home in the league since a 3-1 loss to Chelsea on 3rd December 2016 – they’ve gone 12 games unbeaten since, winning ten of those games.
Guardiola’s team have already spent a cool £217m in this summer’s transfer window – surpassed only by Real Madrid’s spending in the summer of 2009.
Everton are without an away win in the Premier League since a 1-0 victory at Crystal Palace on 21st January – a run of eight games without a win.
Man City v Everton Team News
City are without Samir Nasri (neck), Benjamin Mendy (thigh) and Ilkay Gundogan (ACL knee) but have no fresh injury or suspension worries following last weekend’s win at Brighton.
Everton have four long-term injury absentees: Ross Barkley is out until late August after undergoing groin surgery, Seamus Coleman’s broken leg rules him out while Ramiro Funes Mori and Yannick Bolasie (knee) are both out until the new year.
Aaron Lennon (knock) and James McCarthy (knee) have recently joined the injury list for the Toffees.
New signing Gylfi Sigurdsson should be available for the visitors.
Reason for Man City v Everton Bets
This game will be very close to call despite a lot of hype and expectation surrounding the hosts and their capabilities this campaign.
Everton are yet to conceded a goal in either the league or European competition this summer and Ronald Koeman is an excellent tactician in terms of defensive discipline and tactical shape.
Last season, the Dutchman got the better of his Spanish counterpart in both games and even though the now departed Lukaku played a vital part in both games, the Toffees overall squad is now notably stronger.
Sigurdsson should be in line to make his debut while a rejuvenated Wayne Rooney could yet make a difference up front.
City showed in their win at Brighton they may be less swashbuckling and more controlling this campaign, so a draw with less than 2.5 goals would be a sensible prediction for this clash between two sides who are reasonably matched.
