Royal Ascot Day 1 Tips
Royal Ascot kicks off on Tuesday 16th June with seven top class races featuring the King’s Stand Stakes at 3.35pm. Scroll on for our Royal Ascot Day 1 tips and picks…
1.15pm Royal Ascot – First Contact (Each Way) at 14/1 with Skybet (6 places!)
Twenty four runner handicaps at Royal Ascot are never an easy conundrum to solve, but the cream tends to rise to the top in these events and the Godolphin-owned First Contact could be the one to do just that.
First Contact has only ever run in a handicap twice. One of those he won, the other was an 11th placing in the Britannia at Royal Ascot last year when he was severely hampered at the start and never fully recovered. He battled on well to only go down by six and a half lengths in the end. In truth he is actually better than handicap class and has held his own in the Group and Listed spheres.
At 12/1+ he looks a great each-way Royal Ascot bet in the opener with William Buick booked to ride.
3.35pm Royal Ascot – Glass Slippers (Each Way) at 9/2 with BetVictor
Despite being one of the very best sprinters in training, Battaash has a monkey on his back at Ascot and he is yet to win there. Bearing that in mind, and given that he trading at prohibitive Royal Ascot odds, it may pay to take him on with the improving Glass Slippers.
Trained by Kevin Ryan, the four-year-old filly has had this race as her intended target since she was victorious in the Abbaye at Longchamp last October. She won that unique sprint race with some conviction and she is well thought of by her connections.
There is every chance that she can take down the mighty Battaash on this biggest of stages.
4.10pm Royal Ascot – Queen Power (Each Way) at 17/2 with Unibet
Queen Power will not have Terebellum to deal with on this occasion and should come on leaps and bounds from her encounter with the Godolphin filly at Newmarket last time out. She did look a little bit ring rusty in that race but she was battling on hard at the end and her prospects look good.
The King Power filly will be ably assisted by Silvestre De Sousa once again.
4.40pm Royal Ascot – Coeur De Lion (Each Way) at 14/1 with 888sport
Dual purpose trainers and horses are totally the way to go in any long distance race at Ascot, with that theory leading us to the each-way chances of Alan King’s Coeur De Lion.
The seven-year-old stays longer than the mother-in-law in these distance handicaps and if there is any faint sniff of any precipitation in the ground on Tuesday, it will further enhance his chances.
“Frankel in majestic form, by eight or nine in the Queen Anne!”
The finest Royal @Ascot performance of all time…
