Lithuania v England Team News
Southgate could freshen up his starting XI, with Harry Winks and Harry Maguire hopeful of making their senior England debuts. Daniel Sturridge, Jesse Lingard, Aaron Cresswell and Michael Keane are all fighting for a start, while Joe Hart could be replaced in goal. Dele Alli returns following his one-match ban.
Lithuania have no new injury concerns and could name the same starting XI to the one that got a draw in Malta on Thursday.
Reason for Lithuania v England Bets
Harry Kane’s late goal against Slovenia on Thursday night ensured that the Three Lions qualified for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Pundits and fans alike have already started debating their squads and tactics for next summer’s tournament, but there remains one final Group F qualifier.
Hosts Lithuania sit second bottom but they wouldn’t have expected to challenge for a top position at the start of the campaign. One win and three draws isn’t a bad return considering their lowly Fifa ranking – they sit 120th in the world, below the likes of St Kitts and Nevis, Sierra Leone and Lebanon.
England meanwhile – currently 15th in the ranking – may be in great form on paper, but their rather uninspiring performances means there’s still a lot of work to be done before next summer’s tournament. Southgate’s squad is far from set in stone, with a number of positions in the squad up for grabs.
So whilst Sunday’s game may be their last competitive match before Russia, every match from now on is a chance for players to stake their claim for a place on the plane. For that reason, don’t expect the Three Lions to settle on Sunday – they’ll want to end the campaign on a high and create more of a sense of optimism. Back Southgate’s men to get the win on Sunday at 1/3 with Betfred.
In the reverse fixture, Lithuania managed just 28% possession and had just two shots on target, whilst all the stats suggest that England will win this one without conceding. Back England to win to nil at 11/10 with William Hill.
