Harry and Meghan Royal Wedding Betting News
When William Priced up Harry’s Wedding Guests…
Ever since Prince Harry announced his engagement to Meghan Markle in late November online bookmakers have had a vast array of novelty Royal Wedding betting markets open on events surrounding the couples big day. Most are utter folly but, remarkably, there is some real value in others especially as the big day approaches.
Bookmakers William Hill have already got two things seriously wrong surrounding the wedding of the year. Firstly they offered odds of 6/1 about Windsor Castle being the venue for the knot tying ceremony.
Windsor’s St George’s Chapel is much smaller than what were considered the most likely venues at the outset, it has a capacity of 800 compared to the 2,000 they could have packed into Westminster Abbey. St Paul’s was actually the even-money favourite.
Nevertheless Boris Johnson, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, a job title normally gives the person in that position an automatic invite to Royal weddings was initially offered up a 10/1 by William Hill to be one of those 800. That price has long gone although Paddy Power are still offering 3/1 about the much-maligned politician being present on the big day. We think he will.
But the banker Royal Wedding bet for us is SKY’s Formula 1 presenter Natalie Pinkham. Pinkham, whose career began presenting European Poker Tour events for Poker Stars, has always mixed in royal circles being a close friend of Zara Phillips and her husband, rugby player Mike Tindall. Indeed the pair, along with Princess Eugenie, were at Pinkham’s own wedding in 2012.
And Pinkham knows Harry well too, the pair dated in 2006. That’s a long time ago and the couple are now regular reported to be good friends. That theory stands up given they have been photographed at the same social events together.
