When is it?

Cheltenham Festival Stats

  • The prize money for the Cheltenham Gold Cup is £625,000.
  • Golden Miller was the first horse to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup and the Grand National in the same season, in 1934.
  • The Cheltenham Gold Cup has been won 25 times by horses training in Ireland.
  • Ruby Walsh, who won seven races at the Festival in 2016, holds the record for the most wins by a jockey in a single year.
  • Quevega won the Mares’ Hurdle six times in a row between 2009 and 2014, the most consecutive victories by a horse in any Cheltenham Festival race.
  • The Cheltenham Gold Cup, Queen Mother Champion Chase, Champion Hurdle, Ryanair Chase, and Stayers’ Hurdle are among the five highlight events held during the Cheltenham Festival.
